Okay, so I'm not going to outline all the things which can be done, but I'm sure you can imagine, when anybody can upload a picture over top of a picture on the Main Page. We saw this with the recent 2007 Reskin, when we had goatse on the Main Page for over an hour. Hence, I volunteer to personally protect all images placed on the Main Page (UnNews, Featured Article, and the like). But, before I go ahead an start protecting tons of stuff, I'd like to hear other people's ideas on the subject. --The Zombiebaron 19:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

It was more like 20 minutes, wasn't it? Oh, and semi-protecting should be enough. If it's needed at all. I think that was just a one off, cos that image was practically all there was on the front page. Spang talk 19:28, 16 Jan 2007
However, a savvy vandal could replace the 2 images on the Main Page with shockporn, and potentially turn away/gross out alot of people. --The Zombiebaron 23:25, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I say protect them. A goatseing happened? Good god... Anyway, full protect each image for the duration that it's on the main page. I believe WP does the same thing, though I could be wrong. --User:Nintendorulez 00:55, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Protect: I recall helping revert a bunch of tubgirl from directly mainpage-linked images, as well as indirectly linked (all the images on the featured article at the time), so yeah, I say go for it. I think I've seen other wikis do this, too. --CaptainSpam MUN PUTPBAA 20:32, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Automate?

Apparently, over at Wikipedia there was some talk of adminning a bot specifically for this purpose. It was pretty controversial, and ultimately the bot's RfA was withdrawn when one of the developers came up with a patch for MediaWiki that made it unnecessary - see here - maybe Uncyclopedia could do the same thing?  c • > • cunwapquc? 05:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

That sounds like a perfect solution. I asked in #wikia about whether wikia's planned upgrade will include this patch, or if we could have it applied here, but I got a thorough ignoring from the wikia staff in the room at the time (guess who?). I'll ask again at some other point, or someone the staff actually respond to can. Spang talk 13:09, 17 Jan 2007
Huh? I didn't ignore you... Although the only question I saw didn't refer to this patch specifically, just to the upgrade in general. I don't know if this patch will be included, but I can find out. -- sannse (talk) 13:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Not you :) But yeah, thanks! Spang talk 13:48, 17 Jan 2007
Ah, as we were on at the same time today, I misunderstood. Anyway... I've just talked to one of the technical team, and he's confirmed that we will be using the latest revision. It's now not likely to happen before the Wikia staff meeting in February, but I'm still told it's coming soon -- sannse (talk) 13:56, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. As long as all the patch does is make so that images currently on the Main Page cannot be overwritten, it should make the "Goatse on the Mainpage" problem less. Although, I can still think of a couple ways it could happen, we need not discuss those until their is a problem with them, as the system currently in place seems to work and whatnot. --The Zombiebaron 23:51, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
