EVERYBODY ELSE: Please check to see if your bug is one of these before posting your bug report AT THE TOP of #Current bugs!

  1. PHP ERRORS
    If you see lines on the top of the page like PHP Warning or whatever, be a dear and copy/paste that for us along with what page you saw that on and what you were doing at the time so we can better look into the issue.
  2. "Array to string conversion ...on line 1522"
    If you are getting this notice, that's a known issue, so you don't need to post it unless the page is broken otherwise.
  3. Broken redirects
    If you come across a redirect which points to a page which exists, but shows a red link, do a "null edit" on the redirect (click the "edit" tab, insert a space somewhere, click "save"). This should fix it.
  4. The new edit window is "icky"!
    And I quote: "...you can turn it off in your preferences. Go to editing, uncheck 'enhanced editing toolbar' under beta features, and if you want the old one instead, make sure 'Show edit toolbar (requires JavaScript)' is checked. -— Lyrithya ༆ 16:26, 5 January 2013 (UTC)"

Open bug.svg Bug report: Missing contributions from Wikia

Description:

I have edits to this article that aren't showing up in my contributions page. Is there some sort of process I have to do to link my .co account to my Wikia account to confirm that I'm the same person before the edits will show up on my contributions page? Tepples (talk) 21:53, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

This site is its own site (not a mirror), and the last mass-imports from the old Wikia site were done in January. If you made edits to the Wikia site, you can manually copy-paste them over here, or ask someone to import them for you (I can do it, if you tell me which edits you'd like to be imported.)  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngTue, Apr 30 '13 2:05 (UTC)

Open bug.svg Bug report: Autoconfirmed requirements

Description:

Help:User access levels#Autoconfirmed users says it takes four days to earn autoconfirmed. I have edits on my contributions page that are more than three months old, but I still don't see "Autoconfirmed users" in Special:Preferences. Is autoconfirmed functionality broken, or is the help page broken? Tepples (talk) 21:53, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

I think you also need to hit a minimum edit count to earn it now. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) Proudly bogan 23:10, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Open bug.svg Bug report: Image error (possibly related to the issue Special:UnusedFiles)

Description:

File:FF popup.gif is displaying a weird error that prevents it from being displayed. The error message is unreadable on the file page but you can see the some text on here:

"Error creating thumbnail: convert: malloc.c:2451: sYSMALLOc: Assertion `(old_top == (((mbinptr) (((char *) &((av)->bins[((1) - 1) * 2]))"
In addition, unused files I've deleted continue to show up on the list even after the cache is updated. MadMax (talk) 21:35, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

Open bug.svg Bug report: Imagemagick rendering contrast issues

Description:

Apparently it's mishandling some png thumbs, possibly just grey files - see File:Sophia-Loren.png (RGB) and File:Sophia-rocks.png (grayscale). And yeah, I'll probably wind up having to fix this myself, but at here's a note, either as a reminder or in case someone else wants to look into it. -— Lyrithya 02:26, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Okee dokee. We know we have an issue with imagemagick, and we're working on it. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSat, Mar 16 '13 22:37 (UTC)

Open bug.svg Bug report: Invalid Pages from a long ass time ago

Description:

There are any one of a number of titles that are bad and so the contents were unreachable on the front end such as [[Talk:Talk:Main Page]] Notice how I didn't use <nowiki> there. I'll work on compiling a full list here. Mike the Great (talk) 23:18, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Shit, I didn't include redirects in my scan. If you guys wipe out those pages I'll do another scan to include them. – Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike the Great (talk • contribs)

Open bug.svg Bug report: PF4Eva has issues

Description:

Taken from elsewhere:

I am having a strange problem. When I connect to Uncyclopedia's new home, the page loads very slowly and indefinitely. I tried diagnosing my problem with DownforEveryoneorJustMe and WhyDown and they both claim that the site has no problems.

I used the command promt and here's what I got at line 7:

7. * * * Request timed out

I can't be the only person in the world who is experiencing problems. Apparently the problem is on my end...?

Thanks for your help. Black-2.jpg PF4Eva, the President of Imagination Vote for me My tax returns 01:21, February 13, 2013 (UTC)

The problem does appear to be with your end. I suggest you contact a doctor. MrN MrN9000SouthParksmall.jpg 01:43, Feb 13
I've been having similar connectivity issues on my end. It's intermittent, but the speed here and the speed at http://mirror.uncyc.org are not that dissimilar, and the lag appears to be more on the server side for both of those sites. Nominally Humane! 08:37 13 Feb
The mirror is much slower for me. This site loads just fine, especially on mobile devices now that we don't have a content warning. --EMC [TALK] 17:36 Feb 13 2013
Remedy: The issue is with Internet Explorer itself. While using IE9, I had to hit F5 often to navigate (frustrating as hell, lol). Working just fine in Firefox. Black-2.jpg PF4Eva, the President of Imagination Vote for me My tax returns 03:19, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Problem is probably due to our database backups, which are apparently bogging down the server for a few minutes every day. We're working on Doing It Better. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngFri, Feb 22 '13 21:44 (UTC)

Open bug.svg Bug report: Minor issue in SpecialPages, broken interwiki links

Description:

There's some HowTo and UnBooks talk pages listed on Special:UncategorizedPages. Did You Know was also uncategorized. I also ran across some articles from 2005 and 2006 though I just re-redirected them again. I'm also seeing the occasional red link to foreign uncyclopedias. MadMax (talk) 12:23, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

I noticed the interwiki red link problem too, on Esperanto for example (check the recent history) --Littleboyonly.jpg TKFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFCK Oldmanonly.jpg 15:14, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
MadMax: what do you mean you "ran across some articles from 2005 and 2006"?
On the interwiki issue: it is being dealt with (very, very, verrrrry slowly, mainly because I'm the one dealing with it). See Carlb's comments on it above, and the two forums about them. And also my talk page, Carlb's and Cartoonist Henning's.
If you see an interwiki link that is broked, get back to me on mah talk page. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSun, Jan 13 '13 22:32 (UTC)

Specifically, I redirected:

  • Samuel L. Jackson, a page I originally redirected back in 2006. The original one-liner was there even though my edit was still in the history. I did the same thing with Playstation.
  • iPods, a quote written by Famine from 2005. I merged it with iPod though it was most likely redirected to that article on the old site.
  • Suxx0r, a quote written by Codeine from 2005. I merged it with Ancient Leet language.
  • Quotes4, Quote37, and Quote38 were Oscar Wilde quotes from 2005 that I assume were from the old Wilde project.

Mandate and Plus are also 2005 articles. I don't know if there's an expanded version of these on the old site.

I've seen more than a few pages now with red interwiki links. Is this something that will eventually be fixed or should I remove them when I see them? MadMax (talk) 12:39, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Here are some other odd pages that are listed:

  • [[Video 293849]], [[Video 295425]], [[Video 296038]], [[Video 296044]], [[Video 296639]], [[Video 297947]], [[Video 298839]], [[Video 299534]], [[Video 300199]], [[Video 300470]], [[Video 300626]], [[Video 300996]], [[Video 301734]], and [[Video 302180]]. They were created in 2008 but they don't seem to be part of an article.
  • [[Furries (duplicate)]], [[Star wars (duplicate)]], [[Star wars (duplicate)]], an [[Zoology (duplicate)]]. These were never created but continue to be listed in the Special pages.
  • , [[eo:Bonaqualogy]], and [[it:Silent Hill]]. I'm not sure if this is related to the interwiki problem but pages like this were also on the old site's special pages. The first one exists as an article on this website and originally created in 2007.

MadMax (talk) 13:03, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Aww, the duplicates can't actually be accessed? They were this funny thing that came with the dump off wikia - multiple page ids to a single title, so to import them we renamed some of them to 'title (duplicate)' and... damn. Would have been funnier had they actually wound up accessible. Guess someone will have to look into those on the database end again. -— Lyrithya 21:36, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
The "Video ######" rubbish seems to have been from a kaltura.org extension which Wikia installed in 2008, even though we never wanted it. There was a short-lived namespace created for these at one point. We never used it and these can be safely deleted. Articles starting with it: and eo: conflict with language prefixes (Italian, Esperanto). Italian was one of the early projects moved to a separate Wikia (these mostly fall between June 2005 with fr: as the first "other language" spinoff and April 2006 when languages with existing pages like pt: and zh-tw: started being moved from en:'s Babel: namespace to non-Wikia *.uncyclopedia.info domains instead of created as Wikia with incompatible licenses) and eo: was likely a little more recent. The articles with it: and eo: were likely created before these existed as seperate wikis (or at least before Wikia got around to creating the interwiki links). bg: is Bulgarian and was one of the more recent additions. Not sure what's up with the ones with (duplicate) in the titles? Carlb (talk) 16:27, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

    If it's still broken, I'm afraid you'll have to try to update the code yourself to use the current formatting and such. If you notice any wider issues that might be causing trouble in general, in particular on other pages, please report those as well. (I couldn't find any, but didn't look too hard.) -— Lyrithya 18:18, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
    Oh nonononono, you don't understand. My userpage used to only display the menu at the upper right hand corner of the screen when hovered over, but now it displays it all the time. DO NOT WANT. And many of the images have somehow stopped working. DO NOT WANT. Not only that, but I found a bug on this page that I also found on the "Redundancy" page: the fake edit buttons on the side of <h2> tags have stopped working. DO NOT WANT. And I have no idea how to fix any of this, and the bug still isn't resolved. So in other words, I'm moving it back to "Current Bugs" until it is fully resolved. ~[ths] UotM My Farticles. Qaplá'! Gobshite of the Month March 2012 Magician of the Month March 2012 Uncyclopedian of the Month November 2012 21:19, 01/12/2013
    I can probably fix that for ya THS, but I've got a shitload of other stuff what needs a-doin' first, so it may be a while. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSun, Jan 13 '13 22:15 (UTC)
    Okay, for the record, many of the issues I've brought up have been fixed (thanks, Lyrithya). The only one that hasn't was the fake "edit" button that is still a problem on my userpage and on the Redundancy page. ~[ths] UotM My Farticles. Qaplá'! Open bug.svg Bug report: Edit window link suggestion is slow

Description:

The in page search function is moving slow if at all (I don't know the tech term, it's when you do a search while editing by started it [[HowTo:Beet , and then the "off" doesn't show as an option). This goes for pics [[File:Abra , as well, although Wikia uncy doesn't in-page file pics where you can scan the pics by using the up and down aarows. I too am amazed at how much work and time a group of people have put into this, and it's lucky we have coding geniuses so interested in keeping this site afloat. Thanks. Aleister 14:17 7-1-'13

I'm not too sure how this is supposed to work, because my Internet connection is so slow that I usually have Javascript turned off, and so I've never used the feature. Could be an issue with the new fancy editor. Try Lyrithya's advice from up above:

 ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngMon, Jan 7 '13 14:39 (UTC)

If I understood you I'd do it, but I'll try it later. You've never used it? That's how I do almost all my links and used to do lots of pictures, you could get an entire list of existing pages, and used to get a list of pictures which you could schroll down using the up and down keys. Both tools are among my favorites on uncyclopedia. Thanks for doing all those in=page pop=jups yesterday, that was tedious work. I found a few more but I'll try to do them later following your code. Aleister 16:56 7--1--'13
Sometimes the options dropdown list appears somewhere else on the screen. I've noticed it. If it still isn't there, idk.--ڰโ٣ Ṗ€Áʃeɰɧĩʐʑ ďé Ňөщ Y০гk Ťá|k & ЯерlЧ Ѕтаlк 21:31, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Al: it turns out that particular feature is an extension to the software here, so I'll see if I can bug somebody who knows how it works and see if it's improperly configured or something. It does seem to act a little funky for me, as well. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngTue, Jan 8 '13 4:39 (UTC)

Open bug.svg Bug report: {{Logo}} issues

Description:
  • The little green man in the top left corner of the Featured template that says FEATURED! is too far down on the page, hardly in the top left corner at all! --Littleboyonly.jpg TKFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFUJewriken.GIFCK Oldmanonly.jpg 00:29, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
    • Unless I'm mistaken the site notice is pushing that down, along with a couple other things. The colonized logo on the top of the Great Britain page, along with the page Aleister posted above are having the same issue. The Woodburninator Wood burning.gif Minimal Effort  04:20, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
    Anything which uses "absolute position" HTML attributes to try to paste text or images over top of the page title area or the site logo is likely not working, as a position which might've looked OK in monobook is usually a wee bit too low on the page on vector. There are better ways to do this sort of thing; the 'displaytitle' function in MediaWiki or installation of extensions to override logos on a per-page basis or insert CSS into individual pages. Carlb (talk) 03:03, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
    I don't understand a word you're saying. Aleister 3:15 5-1-'13
    A <css> </css> plugin could be useful indeed. Otherwise, there is a solution for the logo-alignment problem: use the same id, but insert different values for those same id at vector.css or monobook.css. R7 (NL) 14:32, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
    The <css> tag code (as used on nl: pt: et al.) was posted to mw:Extension_talk:NewPageCSS#Outputs_nonsense. There is another Extension:CSS which does the same job but with different syntax, #css: as a parser tag. Either would be useful. Carlb (talk) 20:13, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
    The latter is already installed, but neither, for security reasons, support image backgrounds. -— Lyrithya 02:36, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
    It looks like someone needs to write a js to reposition the featured stamp, since the vector skin doesn't have any good hooks for an extension to use (and skizzerz' idea of putting it in the logo image was brilliant but unfortunately just didn't work). js would work perfectly to account for the sitenotice which is added in js anyway, the main thing apt to push the stamp down, and also for long titles, though anyone with js off will still see a mis-positioned stamp for the latter. -— Lyrithya 16:01, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Now when I read about putting the featured image in the logo, I was thinking about the constructure of #p-logo, which excists out of "#p-logo" and "#p-logo a". Now, normally, the image itself is located at #p-logo a, which causes it to click on it to go to the main page. When I move this background-image from #p-logo a to #p-logo itself, and putting the featured image instead on #p-logo a, it is placed above the potato and is adjustable with (negative) margins and paddings. I think this will fix it. Only thing to rethink about is namespaces. This only does work with main-space articles. Or there must be all different sorts of templates be created for those namespaces.

 #p-logo {
    background-image: url("http://images.uncyclomedia.co/uncyclopedia/en/b/bc/Wiki.png") !important;
    background-repeat: no-repeat !important;
    background-position: 50% 50% !important;
 }
 #p-logo a {
    background-image: url("http://images.uncyclomedia.co/uncyclopedia/en/thumb/2/2f/Featured.png/190px-Featured.png") !important;
    background-repeat: no-repeat !important;
    background-position: -5px 40% !important;
    padding-left:10px !important;
    margin-left:-10px !important;
    padding-right:20px !important;
 }
For me, this just works nice. By the way, these <nowiki>'s in the source code should be gone of course. R7 (NL) 12:11, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes check.svg Resolved issue: external links leading to Wikia

Description:
  • Various pages are hotlinking images from Wikia or contain clickable links to point to articles left behind on uncyclopedia.wikia.com. The {{FA}} template does this and uses an absolute-position which places the image over the site name instead of behind the logo. Many signatures used [http://...uncyclopedia.../wiki/Pagename http://images.wikia.../a/ab/SomeImage.png] instead of [[Image:SomeImage.png|link=Pagename]] as the link= parameter didn't exist pre-MW1.14 or so. This may need a search-and-replace so that we are not linking to Wikia for any reason.
    Fixed {{FA}}, but you're right, there are a lot of pages with hard links. Working on a search-and-replace as we speak. Kinda. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSat, Jan 5 '13 11:54 (UTC)
    Ok, I believe it's done. There are still some hard-links that can be found via this and this and this, but they consist of either intentional links to wikia, forum pages that cannot be changed because it would "bump" dead threads, or links to archived image versions which no longer exist. There's also the list of links to the old uncyclopedia.org domain, and someone will get around to changing all of those at some point, I'm sure. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngFri, Apr 12 '13 2:00 (UTC)

  • Special:Shortpages is giving some odd results. UnBooks talk:The Old Man and LV shows up as 54 bytes, whereas I count at least 64. Editing the page (null edit) seems to have had no impact. There are other non-short short pages in that list as well. It seems to be pages that Aleister has created that are affected, so I blame his evil coding genius. Nominally Humane! 10:46 06 Jan
  • Reports such as special:wantedpages are not being generated. Carlb (talk) 21:12, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
    Should just require $php updateSpecialPages.php being run, however we already have a few other maintenance scripts running, so its low priority until then. This Is Not Legoktm (talk) 01:34, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
    That job is now running weekly, however this specific page is loaded dynamically. I didn't see anything wrong in the database, so its possible this is an upstream issue, though I doubt it. Legoktm (talk) 13:12, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
    The issue on Special:Shortpages has been worked out. It seems Aleister saw red-linked talk pages for a few of his articles on Moving Day, and decided to recreate them. However, the namespaces hadn't yet been set up. So, when the namespaces were set up a few minutes later, those "recreated" pages became inaccessible, but were still hanging around in the database. I solved the issue by renaming them database-side and then deleting.
    Also, the special pages which rely on cached data should be updating once a day, now. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngWed, Mar 27 '13 1:28 (UTC)

Okee dokee. We know we have an issue with lots of pages that are labelled as redirects even though they aren't, and we're working on it. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSat, Mar 16 '13 22:37 (UTC)
"Okee dokee". Hmm... Sannse was sexier. :P ... I found some of them could be fixed by just editing the page once and saving it. Also... When you say "We know" how many of you are there? MrN MrN9000SouthParksmall.jpg 00:09. Mar 17. 2013
Well, if you don't like me saying "okee dokee", I can always get naked... and punch you in the throat.
As for how many mis-labelled redirects we have, well, judging from that page, ...about 700 or so. It's a pretty simple issue to fix, in theory. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSun, Mar 17 '13 22:43 (UTC)
Punch please. and not dokee, but donkey. ... I was not sure if it was something which could be fixed at the server side without the need to manually edit, or bot each page. I guess you are saying that it's not, so maybe I will have a go at fixing a few myself. I noticed that the page did not refresh after I "fixed" a few. Does the refresh happen at a fixed time or something? and.. also how come they all have lines through them? I figured that must be due to some server side issue. MrN MrN9000SouthParksmall.jpg 22:58. Mar 17. 2013
It is some server-side issue. First off, the data that Special:BrokenRedirects uses is cached, so it may take a while after the issue is resolved for the page to clear out. Second of all, it should be easy to fix server-side, so there is probably no need to send a bot through and do null edits (as far as I know). In fact, that might make the issue harder to resolve. Hate to be so vague, but I personally dunno what the issue is for sure, so I'm just covering up the fact that I'm completely gormless with lots and lots of pointless words, because that's what they do over at W...The Site Which Shall Not Be Named, and it seems to mostly work for them. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngTue, Mar 19 '13 0:17 (UTC)

Fixing red links in WantedPages

Would it be alright to start redirecting pages in Special:WantedPages? Automobile, for example, should redirect to Car but are pages still being imported at this point? There are also miscellaneous pages currently listed (e.g. [[%PAGE%‏‎]], [[M:Religion and Wikipedia‏‎]], and various interwiki links) that link up to 100+ articles. MadMax (talk) 13:47, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Fixing links to wikia

I think I've gotten most of the external links pointing to the old wikia site. I'm assuming specific mentions on articles, talk, and user pages (e.g. John Scherer/Outrage!/Response) are to be left alone?

There's a lot of nomination pages on VFH, Pee Review, etc. that use the wikia.com address in the title. Similarly, there's links on plenty of the forums as well. There were some wikia image links that wouldn't display in preview when I tried fixing them. Will external links for uncyclopedia.org need to be changed too? MadMax (talk) 17:31, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Technically, everything is adjustable, but I don't know what Uncyc's userpage policy says: is someone's userpage entirely his property, or can we make the changes which are - in my view - not harmful to the content's context? We're basicly not wiping out every W*k*a-link from the article base since each change to the content is logged in the page history. But hey: what about using a robot? There must be scripts around somewhere | Cartoonist | Spit it out! | 03:05, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
The problem with a script is that several of them have context, examples coming from the move to the wikia domain in 2008 from the .org domain and if we got a robot to do it they would also be changed and whilst they do point to the wikia site they sort of need to. Futhermore several hundred exist in forums which would all be bumped which is bad. For now it's safer to do in manually, I'm mainly working on diffs and whatnot on talk archives and the odd one in mainspace. These can be corrected because otherwise it doesn't make much sense, also it gives more links to this site which will boast are search engine ratings. But yeah not everything needs changing... As for the .org links I thought Skully changed them all last April but yes they should be updated too as they redirect to the Wikia site. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) Proudly bogan 03:14, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Broken images

I've been going through the Category:Pages with broken file links and have run across some problems. These mostly concern files that have been mistakenly deleted as unused images.

  1. Trying to restore a file for an image deleted prior to 2011will result in an error message. This also occurred on the old website, so I assume its not related to the move, but I just thought I'd mention it.
  2. Successfully restoring files does not remove the page from the broken links category even after several days.
  3. Files from imported pages do not exist despite a record of it being uploaded (e.g. EMC's File:Anuslogo.jpg).

In addition, I'm seeing a few external image links that are broken in non-mainspace pages. I was able to repair some of these when I was fixing the links to wikia but it didn't always work (I noted those I wasn't able to fix in the edit summary). Should wikia image links be changed to uncyclomedia.co? MadMax (talk) 12:11, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

A significant number of the files hosted on site as of January 2010 were moved over to the mirror, as we're a large number of files (but not all) hosted as of early to mid 2012. You may also be able to locate files using wayback machine. Obviously this isn't a technical fix as much as it is an advantage in having back-ups off site of site content. I also created User:Puppy/image as a way of determining what file pages we had and where they were used. Note this only reflects the file pages - it doesn't determine the images themselves.
My experimentation with Category:Pages with broken file links elsewhere showed me that this category was not dynamic. The pages that were shown were those that had broken file links at the time the page was last updated. (Or at least, I think that's how it worked.) this means you'll get false positives in there as well as not covering reflecting pages that develop broken links when a file is deleted. Or - in other words - it's pretty useless. I did consider a DPL solution to address this at one stage but the server load that it presented was pretty heavy, and it crashed more often than it worked, unless I stripped the bulk of the variables out of it, which then made it too slow and with too few results to be worthwhile.
The next option is to run a not that looks for links in a page that are file creation links - so for instance File:This does not exist creates http://server name/index.php?title=Special:Upload&wpDestFile=file name as URL encoded. Once you have a listing of files then searching other wikis for the link to the media via [[Media:file name]] is a matter of simple cut and paste. I also have a script a friend of mine out together that will import images on a large scale based upon the URIs of the image files.
Hope that helps. If not, then not much else I can do to assist. Nominally Humane! 03:11 13 Feb
Oh, and File:Anuslogo.jpg will reflect a page, whereas Media:Anuslogo.jpg will reflect the file itself. Hence the redlink can be useful. Especially when worked into a DPL that displays files. Nominally Humane! 03:17 13 Feb

That does help, thanks. I've found that editing a page a second time (after the broken image is fixed) will remove it from the category. I've been going through Special:UnusedFiles and listing missing files at Uncyclopedia:RadicalX's Corner. The majority I've found, however, are linked to inactive user pages. Is there a shortcut I could use to find missing files in mainspace articles instead of searching them one by one? MadMax (talk) 08:38, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

More minor issues

  1. Broken files I've deleted are appearing in Special:UnusedFiles even after the cache is updated.
  2. A few pages are appearing in categories as redirects (e.g. Bob Dylan in Category:American musicians.
  3. I can't seem to find the spam filter to block text from pages. Was this brought over during the move (I notice the exclude title feature is not included on Special:WantedPages now)?
  4. I used to be able to search the backlog of Special:WantedPages on the old site, bypassing the 1,000 limit cache, by using this link. Apparently, this is no longer working. MadMax (talk) 08:28, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Regarding Bob Dylan, I've fixed that one instance by making a null edit to the page. I'm currently investigating what seems to be widespread database corruption with the page_is_redirect field. Legoktm (talk) 09:20, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Disabling Forum talk pages

I notice that UnNews blocks the discussion tab on its main page. Could something similar be applied to the Village Dump? It seems to be a semi-regular target for spambots recently. MadMax (talk) 04:23, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Blocking the tab doesn't do much, as I believe those spambots never even see the actual page -- they just use the API. Best idea would be to set up an abuse filter rule that prevents people from editing that "namespace". I'll get Lyrithya or somebody on that. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngTue, Apr 30 '13 2:02 (UTC)
