Barrett's exploitation of Penguins was satirized in Dr. Seuss's classic Child-Brainwash novel "The Sneetches: or How Syd Barrett Exploited Penguins only to Sell their Stuffed Corpses to the World." The novel parallels the conspiracy theories that explain the 5 years Barrett spent on a deserted island with star-bellied penguins, and how he decided to exploit their cuteness despite the fact that they helped him survive his horrible hot air-balloon accident.
