It's time!

Well, the time has finally come for judging the best at PLS. Since it'd be extremely hard (if not impossible) to fairly judge all 13 entries in your category in one sitting, it's recommended you start early and take it in stages. You were chosen as a judge because I trust your judgment when it comes to humor at Uncyclopedia, so you may use any method of choosing the winners that you deem fit. I do have space for you on the judging page to rank your top five favorite articles, in order, and give honorable mention to any other articles in your category that you deem "worthy" of being an Uncyclopedia article (which will then be unlocked after PLS is over). I'd prefer to have the entries almost fully judged by the Wednesday, the 7th of February, though the deadline isn't until the 10th. As such, be ready for me to be panicking if there's nothing done on your entry on the judging page by the 7th. Thank you again for judging, and enjoy the read (as many of the entries are quite funny this go around, in my opinion). Please contact me at my talkpage if you have any questions.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 00:56, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Request for semi-protection

Considering the massive blanking spree by the Powershot dipshit, I would like to request that you semi-protect the following pages:

I want you to protect these pages because these are the pages that Powershot dude seems to target the most. Thank you. --General Insineratehymn 06:45, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Normally I am adverse to even semi-protecting pages, but in this case I'm willing to protect your userpage (because I think userpage semi-protection in general is a reasonable request) and the Flamewar page (because it is based on events that have already transpired, so there is little need to add on to it). I'm not going to protect Benson's page without a request from Benson himself, though. —rc (t) 06:59, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Well I'll just make a new page and link it from the featured content page. Oh, and the pages that are found at the very bottom didn't have a valid FA template on it, so I just left them out because I didn't know when they were featured. Thanks. —Braydie 15:29, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Great! I knew if I put it off long enough somebody else would do it. I tracked down the missing articles - four of them were 2005 pages that had an old Featured template. I replaced them with the current one. The Carl Jung article was added to the Featured section of Best Of by an IP a loooong time ago and apparently it slipped through the cracks, so I removed it. And I found "The" in a VFH archive from 2006.
I moved the 2007 section to the top and adjusted a bit of the formatting. Feel free to copy it to Best Of whenever you get the chance...I don't want to do it because then it would look like I did the work. :) —rc (t) 00:46, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Dang, man, this is like the time Pieclone came back (except he left again after like two days - hopefully you won't play with my emotions like that). A lot of stuff has changed on Uncyc. For one thing we're slowly transitioning into becoming a full-time culinary site - we decided satire just doesn't pay the bills. What's up with you? Been floating around the internet ether until you realized this is your one true home? —rc (t) 17:47, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

yes, yes. i se you remember me. and am i an admin now? did i always have the "Move" option? and i really want to be able to huff and revert. so much stuff, so low admin to vandal ratio. ONX 17:50, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Heh, nope, gotta be more consistent to be an admin. Er...usually. I think "Move" has always been available to registered users with a number of edits under their belts. And we find our low admin count is beneficial - keeping the innermost secrets of the Order of Uncyclopedia is much easier when only a few can be held accountable. Cyanide tooth caps are expensive, too, so fewer admins is easier on the old budget. —rc (t) 19:42, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Star

I've carried out another one of your ideas. Basically I've added a star to the featured article template, so now it's much easier to access the featured version of the page. At this exact moment in time it is Image:LinkFA.png, but it probably has changed by the time you get back (or maybe not). It works alongside the template so featuring will be exactly the same process as before. —Braydie 22:03, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Hm. There should be a way to fix that, I'll ask around. Oh, and welcome back :) —Braydie 19:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey, not sure if you're back doing this or not, but I think I'll just assume that you are. About rewrite suggestions on VFD

Heya, Murphy. You have commented against the subdivision of VFD but you didn't said a word about my suggestion about people voting to keep articles and placing the "rewrite" tag instead. In most cases, they do it because the subject is relevant enough to deserve a rewrite instead of deletion. I think we are just not a real encyclopedia, and by the way any deleted article with a relevant subject will probably be recreated very soon. So, as you have a very weighty opinion, I ask you to comment on this subject. -- herr doktor needsAsample Rocket.gif [scream!] 05:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Are Rewrite votes still an issue on VFD? I know we've discussed the use of Rewrite votes before and my impression was that they were pretty well discouraged. But I haven't maintained VFD in a long time so I could be completely wrong.
As far as relevancy of subjects goes, I agree that articles shouldn't exist just because the subject would deserve an article on, say, Wikipedia. As you say, if it's actually important it'll be recreated after a deletion. However, there is something to be said for good ideas that aren't full articles yet. I'm guessing that some of the people who suggest a page be rewritten do so because an article has a good idea that hasn't yet been fully realized. —rc (t) 05:37, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
So, you admins may edit the VFD introduction. Once I've placed an article on VFD when I just intended to rewriting it. I did this way instead of putting the rewrite tag on it because I could have (and had) a democratic agreement over it. Notice that it was an important subject. -- herr doktor needsAsample Rocket.gif [scream!] 05:43, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
That's a good thing to do, although I think here we generally Assume Good Faith when it comes to rewrites. In any case, that seems to be a legitimate use of VFD in my opinion. —rc (t) 20:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't pay any attention to rewrite votes on VFD, because the articles never get rewritten. I pretty much assume that a "rewrite" vote is a "delete this unless I rewrite it right now" vote. While I don't tell many people that, and it might distress them if they knew, that's the way it goes. Frankly, I'd much rather someone rewrite an article than put it on VFD. If it sucks, and you can do better, than do it. Other than that, I echo what Rc said above. Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 03/15 21:57

VFH: The Quickening

Something is...off. I liked Dracula. Heck, I voted for it, but featured at +12 seems wrong. There should be a minimum (a "floating" minimum, like before, but a minimum nonetheless), rather than just whatever's highest that day (maybe show a random featured article on the frontpage if nothing on VFH is 16+). Am I talking crazy? Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 00:54, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I was a little distressed by that too, but I'm hoping the low vote counts right now are just a temporary thing. Let's give it a couple more days before we take any significant measures. —rc (t) 00:59, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
There can be only one! Actually I'm amazed that we've had votes as high as we've had over recent months, but other than that I agree with RC. Lets wait to see how things pan out.... -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
I thought the numbers dropped after the introduction of the new voting template. I think that it puts off 'drive-by voters', which is a good thing. It might only be 12 votes, but it's twelve votes by people serious enough to navigate the template. --Sir Hardwick Fundlebuggy - (Ring for service) 09:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I totally agree with the opinion that the new template is driving off casual voters. Heck, I don't think I've voted for anything using it, yet. I'm too afraid I'll break something with all the code that's gone into it. That's probably why the vote totals are so low. So long as it doesn't affect traffic, I don't think we have anything to worry about.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 15:10, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

What a bunch of pansies. +12 is an insanely large number of the voting public! I remember when we had like 100 nominations and each one was lucky to get more than three votes. Furthermore, I agree with the waiting and I especially agree with the template doing the counting. Fortune is a fickle mistress, my friend, and so are the unwashed masses. —rc (t) 07:28, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I did a calculation

there's actually 839,299,365,868,340,224 possible combinations to my password, meaning that if he could try 1 per second (bearing in mind a dictionary attack is impossible), it would take him about 1,978,641,469 years to try every combination IF he somehow could try 1 per second... so I really wouldn't worry, and hacking the database is out; passwords are hashed -- Prof. Olipro Icons-flag-gb.png KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. I bought some password hash yesterday from my local dealer...great stuff, man. —rc (t) 05:59, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
you should try his rainbow tablets -- Prof. Olipro Icons-flag-gb.png KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. (Harass) 06:11, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Bad idea or just bad timing?

I saw you unprotected the article Allah on May 16th ("Unprotected 'Allah': outdated protection"). However, within 24 hours the page was blanked twice by people who refuse to get the joke. Perhaps you should reconsider? --Jordanus 06:15, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep my eye on it and if the vandalism continues I'll reinstitute the semi-protection. —rc (t) 17:03, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey there

Just wanted to let you know I'm going to be a lot less-protective of VFH's size than usual starting June 1. Isra still believes I'm being too strict with my removal of articles, so I'm going to let it build more than usual starting next month. If things go to pot, then I'll re-institute my old regulations. Hopefully this'll lead to fewer QFH's. I also plan on taking the standard for QFH up as well, so they'll probably be quite a few upset users that I'm taking away their QFH tags. Just wanted to give you a heads-up.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 15:25, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

All right...I think we still need to keep things reasonable, otherwise it'll just be a mess and any required maintenance (like updating the featured article) will take more work than necessary. I definitely agree with making the QFH rules more stringent. —rc (t) 16:02, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I saw your plans at the Dump. Seem feasible. —rc (t) 16:08, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

I posted this on Todd Lyons' talk page, but he's not responding, so I'll place this on your talk page as you're logged on right now. I'm having a bit of a dilemma here. 99Hello3 has uploaded a version of this image that has fucked-up transparency, and I tried to revert it but it appears to have made things worse. Could you revert it back to the one that has proper transparency? --General Insineratehymn 23:48, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Answered on Todd's page - I think it's just a caching issue. Should be all right now. —rc (t) 23:50, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

You may say I'm a writer...but I'm not the only one

Ahhh, RC...what can I say. In three simple words easily understood in Western culture, you have managed to sum me up. I am both pleased and freakishly awed.--Shandon 05:02, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

I value conciseness. Congrats. ;) —rc (t) 05:26, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
This is an odd request, I'm sure, but could you please change the last link on the front page? I don't find Illiterate funny or representative, myself. My actual reaction on reading the WotM thing was "Heart Down."--Shandon 06:14, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh, very well. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity for a misleading link. —rc (t) 06:35, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Um, I wrote for a year for this site...I feel quite disappointed that I am shunted aside in a few words, seriously.--Shandon 06:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Fine, I added a few more. —rc (t) 06:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry I wasted your time

After reading your post in Forum:Is it time to unlock the Virginia Tech Massacre page? I realized that the edits I thought were conclusive evidence were anything but. It's clear I made a mistake, and I now regret bringing the thing up; at least now I know I was mistaken about my belief back then regarding the sockpuppetry. --Hrodulf 04:25, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Very well, it shall be dropped. —rc (t) 04:33, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
