Considering username change

This section may be obsolete

I am considering a username change per the discussion on my Wikipedia user talk page. As stated there, I still need to decide on a new username, but as soon as I do I will update this page with my decision. Please explain to me what I need to do to get my username changed; my quick and dirty searching didn't seem to help.

Impolite link to your user page

First, it's a link to User:127.0.0.1, which is, I believe, not your user page. Click it and see.

Second, what makes you think that the reason for that link had anything to do with you user page being poorly formatted? Did I make any indication of such a thing anywhere? I don't see anything particularly ugly or otherwise shameful about your user page or its formatting, although you might want to take a little more pride in being blocked by Wikipedia for such a silly reason. (P.S., I don't think anyone here is going to be bothered by your name having a trademarked word in it. I can understand perfectly that if you change it at Wikipedia you may want to change it here as well, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to unless you want to.)

Third, have you heard of Template:USERNAME? Did you read the submit comment? What user is logged on from 127.0.0.1 right now?

1. I failed to actually check the target of the link. However, I feel that it's impolite either way.
2. Your edit summary mentioned Template:USERNAME, which I failed to examine before posting the comment. Since I was trying to fix my userbox to align to the right, I assumed you were talking about a formatting issue.

Firefox banner ad crashes IE

I just read the discussion page for my image and find this hilarious. What's more, I made it in Microsoft GIF Animator.

Sorry if the discussion pages did not make clear that I already fixed the problems by reverting the image to an earlier version. The problem was that the image had one of the famous IE-crashing JavaScript code examples embedded at the end of the data, as detected by the Firekeeper extension for Firefox. I did not mean to imply that the image would actually have crashed IE, as I did not test that. Pentium5dot1 18:13, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Today I tested one of the older versions with IE 7 and it crashes. Also, to be fair, the GIF animator was used on Ubuntu 7.04 with Wine 0.3.9. SteveSims 07:18, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I restored it to the original because it does have humor, which was judged to be unanimous amongst three other friends who looked at it. I have not made any other edits and I don't edit anonymously, so if someone else restored it as well it's probably because they share the view of myself and said unanimous group. ...Carling is a popular beer substitute here in the UK. It retails at around £2.50 for four cans and tastes very much like urine. They have an ongoing series of adverts which follow a "If Carling made X, it'd be the best X in the world" formula that wasn't particularly funny when they first came up with the idea back in, hmm - let's see - about 1645 and has grown progressively more stale since. Uncyclopedia:Requested Articles

I've been talking with User:The Woodburninator on my talk page about improvements to Uncyclopedia:Requested Articles and I was wondering if you had any suggestions? MadMax 18:37, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I basically agree with the reorganization; however, I would like to mention that you should probably use real level 4 headings (==== ... ====) for the finest subtopic divisions, in order to make things easier to edit. Also, I am working on modifying the {{search}} template to use the urlencode magic word instead of requiring the editor to add plus signs between words. Sorry I can't think of any suggestions on that at the moment, but I have a question about this edit. I seem to remember a friend mentioning that "Telephone Sanitation Riots" is a plot element from a book in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, but I'm not too clear on the situation myself. I will report back to you if I find out any more info. How might we be able to work this in?

That does sound familiar but I haven't read it in the longest time. Now that you mention it, I did like the idea of a Medieval-era telemarketing scandal myself (ex. Henry VIII and mail order brides). 1427 was also the year the first Gypsies visited Paris and the Azores was discovered (so its not exactly like there's nothing to work with).

It'd be great if we could get a working Specialpages template. I'd suggest asking one of the older editors who deal with the technical side of things (User:Algorithm, User:Sannse, etc.) but sadly I don't anyone whose still active. MadMax 15:43, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Sun Bee and Neanderthals

In regard to your changing Homo neanderthalis to Homo neanderthalensis in the currently featured article Sun Bee (am I bragging or what?), you are technically correct. I thought briefly about using the true name, but found it seemed awkward in the article (I still have trouble pronouncing it). I don't think you needed to put it on a talk page--it was a small, sensible edit. Another editor pointed out a while back that the species name needed to be lower case--I knew that and missed it at first, and I thought all those were fixed. (Apparently we had fixed them, then when I restored part of what I'd removed, I accidentally put the error back in--thanks for pointing that out--I just fixed it). I suppose the HTML message would be a good idea, but I decided on that very early when the article was just a bunch of rough notes and wasn't worried about fixes then. After that I forgot about it. DDR

Hi. I'm not an admin and I don't have a dog in this fight, though I voted against DDR and we discussed it briefly on the VFD page. Anyway, it doesn't surprise me that the admin who deleted DDR didn't read what you asked to be done with it. It can be gotten back and an admin can do it; surely pointing to the fact that you asked that this be done will be persuasive.

I am often on VFD looking for pages I can salvage. When it looks as though one is losing the election, I go into Edit, select the entire text (Windows: Ctrl-A) and copy it to the Paste Area on my local machine (Alt-E C). Then I create the same document inside User:SPIKE and paste in the text of the document in Mainspace before they kill it. Voila, a private copy (though it doesn't preserve the prior change history, which will be preserved if you succeed in getting a copy through an admin). Spıke ¬  19:02 22-Dec-09

Idea for UN:REQ?

Do you think it might be worth starting an official monthly award for editors to contribute a requested article? I was thinking something along the lines of offering a "bounty" for articles which been on the list for a year or more or simply an article on a basic topic (e.g. Kissing). Requested Article

I'd love an article about the Black Sea: Although I could write about it, but then I'd probably suck. Of course, I do have some useful information that I believe that could be utilized more humourously by others: The Black Sea was named Pontos Euxeinos/Ποντος Ευξεινος (Sorry, I suck as using Greek accent marks, and Mimo&Maxus may fix the accent marks up for me) meaning the Welcoming Sea (to the Foreigners). Also, it was the kingdom of Pontos that actually went around conquering the eastern shores, and Ovid was exiled to the eastern shores of the Black Sea. After the classical period, Black Sea was looked as an strategic point for several reasons: It was the other end of the sea trade route that was controlled by Byzantion/Constantinopolis and for the Russians, it was the major sea route that was seized from the Turks by Pyotr the Great when he took the Turkish fort of Azov assisted by the navy he created for the purpose. • Bevanz's initial disagreement with you seems not to be a problem with your "etiquette" but only a disagreement over how truthful a user page is required to be.
• As Tyciol (not necessarily the same as Wikipedia:Tyciol, but he does point to him) is really banned from Wikipedia:
  • Possibilities are that he wants to advertise that fact, that he would prefer not to advertise that fact, or that he doesn't care.
  • I would find it remarkable if you offered to edit my user page, even if it contained inaccuracies, but would be happy to have them called to my attention.
• Tyciol has been away for a month, but his Contributions suggest that that is typical. You might not get a response from him soon.
