I do have an account, but...

I rarely use it anymore, but have done a few articles (with mixed consequences...) I may come back to this site in the future, I just feel that it is suffering from some severe "going up its arse" (ie not as funny as it would like to think it is...) But Vietnam War Hoax was lame. You'd hope that the best Uncyclopedia had to offer would, like the best wiki has to offer, not be out of place in a commercially published equivalent. Some is, but very very little. Shame, because the lame humour probably puts off people who are genuinely funny from improving this site.

Recently deleted articles

I just thought I'd bring this up, however I've noticed several older articles have been deleted though VFD. While that is to be expected over time if Oscar Wilde is anything to go by, a few of these nominations took place after it had been rewritten most often by a new user. I've restored several of these, Mexico, MTV and Brokeback Mountain to name a few. Recently however, User:YouFang left a message about his article Dynasty Warriors which was deleted a short time ago. While it did fail to be featured a while back, it didn't seem to be considered VFD material back then. I've restored the article to YouFang's userspace, although even its present version doesn't seem too bad. After YouFang has had a chance to go over it, I just wanted to check with you to see if it would be alright to move it back to mainspace.

Recently on VFD a lot of nominations seem to close very quickly and in a few of these, especially with the often long and complicated edit history of some articles, better versions become overlooked by nominators. While its understandable if this occurs once in a while, at least in my opinion, this does seem to be happening a lot more often then it used to. By the way, I'm almost halfway done with deleting the unused images from Special:Unusedimages in case your interested. :) MadMax 22:37, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

This is always the problem with the deletionist attitude. So many articles are only a little TLC away from acceptable levels, and I have argued before that most of the nominations on VFD seem to be aimed at the wrong sort of articles, ones that can be saved. When I've found them I've restored a few decent articles that somehow met the same fate. Perhaps we need a disclaimer on the VFD page asking people to put in a little work before they nominate? I've done some minor editing on {{VFDRules2}}, mostly about checking the article history and previous nominations although I'm not sure how effective its been. I think one of the main problems is that its fairly simple to nominate an article without doing the work that comes with it. While articles with {{ICU}} and {{construction}} are often removed, a lot of times other rules aren't enforced. For example, articles without a VFD tag are often deleted despite being technically ineligible for VFD. I wouldn't go far as to suggest something as extreme as banning and the 15-rule limit, although I think something more is needed to get editors attention. MadMax 23:55, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Mass deletions

Sorry to bother you yet again. :) User:So So left a note on my talk page about the recent deletion of Ol' Dirty Bastard. Checking the article history, it actually seems alright or at least stood a good chance of surviving VFD. Looking around, I noticed a lot of articles have been deleted over the past two days the vast majority having been linked to User:Zombiebaron/DelList. While a good few of the articles wern't exactly VFH material, I did notice a lot of decent articles which seem to have been caught in the crossfire. I didn't want to step on ZB's toes here so I thought I'd check with you before restoring any of these articles. MadMax 06:07, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

I actually removed some from the list when I saw it, as I felt a lot were decent enough articles. I don't mind deleting rubbish, but some of the ones listed could stand up well enough, a few were there clearly because someone didn't understand the references and viewed them as "random". We are NOT in the middle of a forest fire week, so I can't understand why these articles are been deleted. Thankfully, we have the power to return them to their rightful place, but perhaps this is something that needs discussion on the Dump? -- Sir Mhaille  (talk to me)

In defense of my actions, I would like to not only state that I felt that all articles that I deleted were deletable under that Snowball Clause, but also that, if that was not the case, those who wish to complain about the deletion can do so, and I will gladly recreate the pages. I appreciate that everyone on the site is a volunteer, and I have the upmost respect for everyone who works hard to help the site function and grow. I'd also fight tooth and nail against set policies that restrict the common sense approach that I feel works well for us. Having said all that, I do think we need a general set of rules to govern deletion policy. Even if its just i) Can the article be improved?

As you know I'm not a deletionist. I think humour exists in forms that I neither like nor understand, and has a right to exist alongside my own. Whether than makes me a bad Admin I don't know? There ARE a lot of articles that I would delete on sight, also every time I visit VFD I dispair at some of the articles that are listed there. On top of that I've got people on my talk page and on IRC telling me such and such an article has been deleted, and in all honesty it a lot of cases I can't see why.

None of this is directed at you, its just unfortunate that your list has been the straw that has broke the camel's back so to speak. Maybe we just need a baseline of what sort of article is acceptable, and to educate our users on that policy? -- Sir Mhaille  (talk to me)

I think we are going to have to lock VFD for a while and have a discussion on the Forum. I've seen too many decent articles deleted on the say so of a small number of people who maybe don't "get" the cultural references within an article, or it may not be their taste in humour. Added to that the collection of "deathlists" highlighted in the message above, where a large selection of decent articles are seemingly getting nuked on a whim, I think its time to have an open discussion on this subject. -- Sir Mhaille  (talk to me)

Inquiry concerning my faulty (?) VFD nomination

Regarding Weiqi: I failed to make clear that *I* *do* understand the subject of the article, as I am a Chinese-speaking Asian by ethnicity (I prefer not to specify in more detail in public) and my parents have discussed the subject of the article with me on various occasions. Don't worry about it....I'm in a bit of a nark over VFD at the moment, it seems to be getting used for all the wrong reasons, and we are losing a lot of fairly decent articles because of it. I guess the quality issue needs to be quantified, having looked at the Weiqi article for example I think it passes the basic test in that there's humour in there, its got some nice images used, could do with a clean up, but basically its an article that I would let live. Its never going to see VFH, but then neither will a good 80% or 90% of the articles on the site. It does worry me that quite a lot of articles do get deleted because others don't see the cultural references within them, and therefore the source of the humour. People put a lot of work into some articles, and I know how I would feel to see it get nuked because someone doesn't "get" it, or its not their specific taste in humour. You might have guess I don't consider myself a Deletionist. I'd sooner see people helping to fix and improve articles rather than delete them out of hand.... :) -- Sir Mhaille  (talk to me)

I have a question regarding the page UnPoetia:Bluebeard. It appears, however amusing the poem, that it is not an original work. It is credited with its original author and indeed it was written before copyright laws existed in 1902 and is therefore exempt. It is not technically plagiarism, and indeed a vfd:plagiarism tag was removed by the creator of the article.

This is a fresh sub-culture for the anthropomorphism to trains...... it is an idea to modify a train as a human-like character. I have even cosplayed it out in the real world.
