Invalid Request

By adding material to the wiki, you license your contributions under a copy-left license. Therefore, anyone is free to have their way with whatever you write, so long as:

1. they license the derived work under the creative commons
2. they don't use it for commercial purposes.

Requesting removal of derived works, regardless of how bad another user rapes your writing, is against the spirit of the wiki. Also, regular users don't have the power to delete any pages whatsoever. To get it deleted, Joe9320 would need to go through QVFD on an "author request". Even then, it would need admin approval for deletion. He might be in the process of adding more material to it or "bookifying" it.

Technically, Joe9320, or any person, could copy that page into any internet site whatsoever, and as long it was being used for non-commercial purposes, given a proper license, and attributed to uncyclopedia (the attribution thing is part of the license, but isn't practical for intra-wiki copying and is omitted), no body could do anything about it. Now, if Joe9320 tried to claim primary authorship on VFH, that might would be a different issue. --Mnbvcxz 19:36, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Even though you are right, I Personally think it goes against moral ethnics, have you seen the page, it is a near copy of the original List of pokemon page, Uncyclopedia surely wouldn't want two pages near exactly the same on their servers, it wastes the limited memory and makes the admins go Bat Fuck Insane, also note that he had no references on his user page or the unbooks page where the original material was from, it wouldn't matter if it was a small bit of text but it is nearly a whole article that he (or she) copied. Checking his (or her) user page under the 'my articles' heading the unbooks page is the first link, not only that--as explained above, there is no credit for it's original material publisher (me), does this mean he (or she) is trying to claim an article whoms contents belong to another user? There is a way to delete pages simply though, he (or she) could delete all the text and wait for Uncyclopedia to delete the page on accounts of it being 'textless'. If you're gonna just copy/paste, then just link to the original page. That way, there's no hurt feelings. As this is a wiki, our words can be remixed, but the original writer should get the credit for writing the words that he or she wrote. To EvilPalkia, unless he is trying to take "credit" for the work, he has done nothing wrong. Joe9320 may (or may not) be in the process of editing and/or re-working your material, and we should assume good faith. If he is doing that, then he would be given some time to get improve it. (Generally, articles are given 7 days without editing before they are considered for deletion, unless they are one-liners, vanity, or the like).

Also, don't necessarily assume he's trying to steal credit for it. Again, he might be reworking it, to the point that he could claim authorship (or at least co-authorship). Most users aren't overly careful with giving credit to other co-authors on there lists of articles. VFH credit maybe, but not lists of articles. Also, it appears he removed it from his user page. Finally, to be blunt, that article isn't of a very high quality anyway.

Since the credit for the original author is listed in the article's talk page, that problem should be taken care off. (I think)

To Modus, is there a policy on internal sporking? I think a message on the talk page should be enough. I think a "sporked from" message on the article page might be a bit excessive as a general policy. In this case, it might be appropriate, especially if Joe9320 doesn't intend on doing much to the article. --Mnbvcxz 06:07, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess credit on the talkpage is the best we can do. Of course, I say that having no idea what I'm doing. No matter the license, using without crediting is theft. If it's virtually the same, then there's no reason for the duplication. All it does is make Dr Banner go all green and "Rawr!". Then Ang Lee remakes it, and the only good thing about it is the delectable Jennifer Connelly (who nonetheless fails to turn green or bust shit up). Do you really want that? I don't think so. I wouldn't say mere using without credit is theft. I would say, however, that falsely claiming credit for someone else's work is plagiarism. Alot of it depends on what Joe9320 intends/intended to do with the sporked material. I am concerned that this instance might cause someone to over-react a little on the "over-document sporking" side. Actual "full" credit for any given article very difficult to document, and "credit" is often lost in good faith material moving.

As an example, I moved the contents of the article Duck Wilde into a section on the Oscar Wilde/classic page, when I nominated the Duck Wilde article for VFD. However, I failed to document who gets the credit (or blame) for creating the Duck Wilde article. Plagiarism isn't theft per say, it's more along the lines of fraud. For plagiarism to be theft, it would require the author to "own" the "credit" to a work. An act of plagiarism could also be theft if it involves violating a copyright, but I don't think "credit" in the form of "glory" is "ownable". The right be "credited" in the sense of reference, is ownable due to copyright/copyleft laws, but the right to "glory" thereof is not. --Mnbvcxz 07:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
