UnSignpost: yet another new format but still less news[edit source]

So it seems nothing much goes on these days that's really newsworthy. Sure things happen, new users stop by, edit a while then leave, people write things, but...nothing really notable, you know. But we won't write an entire article about how nothing's happening and how depressing that is because, well, it's depressing, you know? So we're going to tell you about one thing the author - in her extreme vanity - thinks is worthy of reporting and make it seem like that's important and trick you into caring, when you'd really much rather be playing video games or (gasp) writing an article.
Retro Week happens

Uncyclopedians, rejoice! A great victory over the forces of liberalism has been won!
We, the Conservative users of Uncyclopedia, have decided that we don't have enough featured in-jokes, clowns, Really Big Trees, user and disambiguation pages, as if we haven’t pulled enough boners (and templates), we are putting all our past glories on our main page, once again, one by one, ten days a week.
Dear readers, only a few days late, the UnSignpost declares the Retro Week open! Applauds!
Originally Shabidoo's very controversial idea, the Retro Week has grown to become the time when all the Uncyclopedia administrators take an official rest from their site work, unless they are also the UnSignpost editors. You don't believe us? Check the recent changes!
So the 2014 Retro Week opened with a really big tree. A very big one. But it is pretty much everything original about it. It pursued with Slender Lorises, that are able to live in wet and dry forests, next - with Template:Boner, which we are not going to use in this UnSignpost, no matter how many times you ask us. Then came the turn of Hardwick Fundelbuggy's Userpage, featured not because it was funny, but because its author had written a lot of funny stuff (following this logic we can feature sandboxes and user contributions). Finally, we saw the Fire Hydrant spreading its waters around Uncyclopedia and slowing down - if not destroying - the servers.
Amongst other pros of the Retro Week are the facts that it gives users a good excuse for not voting on VFH for a while, because nobody does this anyway and that it is keeping our main page busy, while we are making an UnSignpost for you.
Thank Sophia, it happens only once a year!
Biopic We haven't managed to get hold of anyone long enough to get sufficient information out of them for a biopic. They always managed to ooze away just in time. Must be that slime that's got into the works.

- Really, thank you for everything! If I've removed a few jokes, it a very small fraction of everything you added and I very much appreciate what you are doing. I can't call it "help" because I am not even sure who is the author of this article. You are making me ashamed. You have grasped all the thoughts I wanted to express with only a few edits and you are expressing them, a lot better than I could have ever done. I am not even talking about your own ideas and jokes. I don't how it's possible and this is very impressive.

Now, about Siri and Droid. Sorry, if the fact that I deleted the references to them disappointed you. My point was that to impress his customer, John Brown (I prefer referring to him this way, although he doesn't have a name in the article), has done a very small bit of research (though, not very successful one) and tries to talk about smartphones in the introduction as convincingly as possible, despite the fact that he doesn't know a thing about them. I would lead such ignorance to the absurd and I would presume he doesn't know what Android is, not even mentioning its problems. The same with Siri, the iPhone guy. I tried to pursue either the religious imagery at the beginning, but I assume that the attempt at a joke was probably very lame.
And for the swearing, I guess it's my own principle not to do this, even when I am writing from another person's perspective. It might also scare the customer, who must be extremely naïve, but who must have at least the minimal analytic capability, while all of Brown's mono-dialogue is about keeping a balance between scaring the guy and inspiring him confidence about his smartphone.

- Good points about the narrator being too thick to know the difference between models, I'm just a sucker for a joke that slams Droid, and came up with the Siri joke because, frankly, I had nothing else. But I think the prayer stuff works pretty well! Especially tying it to the throwaway I made about the damned, turning that into an angle. Dropping hints of religious zealotism through the narrative would be a good undercurrent to play with; I thought being haunted by his friend's tiger mauling was a good callback too, but if you disagree, eh who am I to argue. --Argylesocks (talk) 04:27, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- "Who am I"?! You're the co-author! I agree with the tigers haunting the narrator and I've just realized that "oh, not the tigers" placed where it was fit perfectly. I'll try to re-add it as well as a few more references to that scene later. It worries me a bit, though, because I'm not sure how to keep the plot going (the smartphone one I mean) with these references, flashbacks and ghosts, but stuff like this always gets sorted out sooner or later. Wow, this was a lot. Great additions! But I am curious: are we making the narrator gay? In your flashback, I modified the very end because I think the funniest thing would be to let his cynical remarks get even into this tragic scene. - Everyone's sexuality exists on a spectrum. In my mind, however, Eugene just had a beautiful face. No shame in just admitting it. If it's alright, I took off that little tag at the end, though. The tonal shift was just too extreme and didn't play very well with me :/ In any case, I think I'm done with my additions. Back in 2007, they called that being THINKER'D. Anything that you could suggest by way of improvements to my article? I get that you don't think it's A) Amusing or B) Finished, but very little more than that. You are well within your rights to dislike my work and if you want to write a long paragraph on that topic I'll hand you the pen, but I don't understand the logic behind just sticking a tag on the article and declaring that it isn't funny. We write articles here, as you are probably aware having written many excellent articles yourself, and we all improve through constructive criticism of our work. If you simply don't like the article for a fairly trivial reason then feel free to keep that to yourself or vote against it should I nominate it to go on the front page.
This site lives and dies on funny stuff and if your reaction to people putting time and effort into trying to be funny is simply to ICU their work with no helpful input or constructive criticism then I can't see this wiki expanding its community very much. Please let me know if you have any suggestions as to how my article can be improved, or if your only suggestion is to delete and start again, please try and explain why.

I've been kind of doing the Featured Article (pieces that the non-admins can do, that is) such as writing up Uncyclopedia:Top 10 of 2013 just to clear things up. Since the Top 10 lists are usually accompanied by a captioned picture of celebrity, that's why I changed the picture from the imaged used on the Top article of 2013 to Rihanna playing Xbox. Sorry for any confusions.

Hello again! I am really interested in your retrospective project. If it's not a secret, I would really like to know what happens to all the information you receive, how it is used and what you are planning to make of it. For instance, will you look at what most users value on Uncyclopedia and then concentrate on developing these strengths?

- Thanks for asking! I plan on collecting interviews from as many past and active users as I can covering their impressions of the wiki, the community, and what struck them as the biggest moments in the site's history. In the end, I hope to compare my own experiences against these and sketch a portrait of the website from its inception, to its heydey, to its current state, and hopefully draw some "profound" conclusions about the life and nature of communities in the digital age. If you wanna throw in your voice, especially as someone who's spent a considerable amount of time at the Wikia wiki, I'd love to hear it. Do the Special:EmailUser thing to User:TKF and I'll send you the questionnaire.
- As for what I do with the information I receive from everyone, for now I am just cataloging it, but once I get enough I plan on asking some follow-ups. If I decide to use any bit of information in the final piece, I will notify the persons affected beforehand to guarantee that they are okay having their name attached to what they said.
