This article is about the book series. For the pregnant bellies of large waterfowl, see Goose bumps.

Goosebumps is a series of children's "horror" novellas written by R. L. Stine and various interns at Scholastic Publishing. Often called the Harry Potter of children's book series due to its impressive sales, the series has appeared on numerous bestseller lists and has even been adapted for television. The popularity of the series in the early '90s has also led to numerous spin-off book series such as Give Yourself Goosebumps, Goosebumps Series 2000, Tales to Give You Goosebumps, Goosebumps Horrorland, Goosebumps Most Wanted, Goosebumps Hall of Horrors, Goosebumps Triple Header, and Goosebumps: Holy Shit! Doesn't Scholastic Have Enough Money Yet?

Original Goosebumps series[edit | edit source]

The original Goosebumps series consists of sixty-two books with a total of twenty-three plots, half of which involve werewolves.

Story structure[edit | edit source]

Every Goosebumps story features a preteen protagonist, usually a White Anglo-Saxton Protestant with a decent amount of money and abusive parents, who encounters something horrifying and supernatural, such as a mummy, an internet stalker, lawn ornaments, or a talking omelet. Many of the books involve the protagonist being dropped off in an spooky, isolated location like an old camp site or New Jersey, often with no phone service.[1] The books are also well-known for their original twist endings and excessive jokes about fat people.

Television series[edit | edit source]
