From Talk:Tourette's Syndrome[edit | edit source]

~~ Moved to discussion, where it belongs: A Polite Note to the Author: I am 17 years old and have Tourette Syndrome. I do not find your article funny or amusing in any way, and I would like it removed or changed as soon as possible.

Let me tell you about Tourette Syndrome:

 • Less than 20% of Tourrettes sufferers swear. You can blame television for always focusing on the bad side of a terrible thing.
 • The main symptom of Tourettes are involuntary muscle spasms, or "tics" which can range from head nods, to a small knee jerk.
 • Tourettes is no laughing matter, it causes children to be bullied at school for something they cannot control, and it has even caused teenage sufferers to become manically depressed and commit suicide.
 • There is no cure, and the drugs that are available to "calm" the tics often have adverse side efects. In fact, I once took a drug called "hanna perodol" which caused my entire body to go numb and basically made it worse than it is without the drug.

I am an active member of a tourette syndrome association and I am making steps towards eradicating the public view of Tourettes as a "swearing" disorder, because it is much much more.

I am sorry for "hi-jacking" your entry on uncyclopedia, but it is stuff like this that really annoys me. i am working towards a better future for all tourettes suffers, and you can do the same by editing this article. Remember, everything here is meant to be funny, and making fun of a horrible disorder is not funny at all.

Thank you for your time. Adrian

- Thats right, just remove my plea because you are a sick person who finds it funny to make fun of horrible disorders. You are a SICK person. If you had Tourettes and someone made fun of it you would not laugh. Do people make jokes about cancer? No. So don't make fun of disorders, there are people who suffer from disorders every day, and that is not funny.

Since you did not change the article from an insult to humour, I put it up for deletion.

Oh, quit whining. Liberals hate articles making fun of liberals; schizophrenics hate articles making fun of psychos; Baptists hate articles making fun of Christians. Get the fuck over yourself.
I am a 4-year-old Baptist and I have no legs. You bastards go right ahead and make jokes--What do you call a legless Baptist in a swimming pool? Bob! But I'll see you all in hell! It's not funny! Don't make jokes! You despicable mockers! You wouldn't make fun of the Prime Minister if he had a cold, would you? Is that a jellyfish coming out of Tony Blair's nose? No, it'snot! Quit mocking people's disabilities and their mucus. Snot funny.
Lets see if anyone has made jokes about cancer, yep looks like they have.--The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. CM and bars UGM F@H (Petition) 17:03, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Why don't we also take down all the Jesus articles? They offend Christians. You know what? Let's just take the entirety of Uncyclopedia down because I'm sure that every article will have at least one person on the planet who will take offense to it. Tip: Don't take the content on Uncyclopedia seriously. --Nintendorulez 01:16, 5 Nov 2005 (UTC)

I'm not whining, I'm trying to correct people's views of Tourettes because in most cases it is flawed. If the article contained no swearing (because its not directly associated with tourettes) I wouldn't mind. You can make fun of the twitchiness if you want, but if you are going to focus in on one very minimal aspect than the majority of sufferers DONT have then there is no point calling the article "Tourettes Syndrome" when a much more truthful title would be "coprialia" which is what the involuntary swearing is called! So, you could mention that coprialia is a sympton that "some" sufferers have.

But amigo, if you come to Uncyclopedia in order to present straight facts...um, wellsir, it appears you have a slight misunderstanding going on. ;)
Good point the very fact that an Uncyclopedia article lampons Tourette's could be considered proof that this is not an accurate reflection of the conditon, I suggest you eithier go massivly overboard with the current style or rewrite it to something completly different, for instance off the top of my head, claiming that suffer's of Tourette's are the people that follow bands round a country going to every night of a tour (although I'm sure you could think of something better) --The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. CM and bars UGM F@H (Petition) 02:49, 2 Oct 2005 (UTC)
I think the current article is much funnier. Let's go with the "massively overboard with the current style" part. --Nintendorulez 01:16, 5 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Ok, problem solved. I started the re-write that Splaka suggested and its going well. It should be finished (my contribution anyway) in a few days!

Rewrite? I spent a lot of time on the current article. Why must the admins delete almost all the stuff I contribute? </whining> --Nintendorulez 01:16, 5 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Its funny how everyone who is offended by our articles fail to realize that this isnt Wikipedia --Nytrospawn 01:41, 5 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Agreed. --Nintendorulez 20:33, 5 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Get a grip[edit | edit source]

Ia m 20 years old and I also have tourette syndrome. To the 17 year old. GET A GRIP. One of the best things that can help you cope with tourettes is laughing at it. I find the article very funny. It's amussing, and the only people bothered by it are people like you, people who have tourettes and think for some reason that no one can joke about it and that people with tourettes suffer all the time and that the jokes somehow cause it. Wrong. Sure, I got made fun of in school a bit, but kids will grow out of that and it will stop. Meanwhile, learn to laugh at it and stop being such a tight ass. Your just making everyone else miserable.

I'm glad to hear that you can appreciate Uncyclopdeia's brand of sick, twisted humor. Unlike some people. --Nintendorulez 21:47, 9 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Tourette's Syndrome is no laughing matter! Its a horrible neurological disorder if u get it as bad as I do, and I find it very bizarre that 90% of people who know about Tourette's just think its Swearing...when in fact swearing only affects LESS then 30% of sufferers. A lot of TS sufferers are in pain for a hell of a long time. Hell, I used to get a twitch where my tounge continuosly flicked across my molars every few seconds. The result: Cuts all the way down my tongue for months. Because the flesh was raw and in contact with saliva it hurt constantly and bled when my teeth cut it open again. It wasn't a laughing matter when I had to wear a thick mouth-guard to school to ease the pain, but all the jerks at my school found it amusing to see someone in pain. Refering to the original author's quote: "I spent a lot of time on the current article" ...come on dude, all it is is a bunch of swearwords that would have taken me a few mins to write.

I showed this article to the Vice-Chairman of the Tourettes Association (UK) and she was shocked and disgusted by its content and the fact that it makes fun out of a disorder which hardly anyone truly understands. This is precisely what she is fighting to prevent, and quite frankly, it is a huge disapointment that a TS sufferer can write this and feel proud. You sicken me. --DrPoodle 23:17, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC)

On Uncyclopedia, everything is a laughing matter. Get the fuck over it and go read another article. --Nintendorulez | talk 02:55, 11 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I suspect you will find that it's more a parody of the popular misconceptions rather than of the syndome itself.........--The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. CM and bars UGM F@H (Petition) 10:16, 11 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I have a close friend who suffers from Tourettes who found the article hysterical, mainly BECAUSE it plays up to all of the misconceptions. I actually think the article shouldn't be nuked or changed from how it is now, if you read the "actual" text it is quite informative. There are a number of pages like this where Uncyclopedia has not shied away from difficult subjects to parady. I'm not surprised that it has a polarity of opinion, I just think its important to remember what sort of site Uncyclopedia is. If you want facts, go elsewhere. -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
Another extremely valid point. Bravo. I'd say the complainer has officially lost the argument. --Nintendorulez | talk 19:53, 11 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I couldn't agree more with Mhaille's assessment. I think the article should stay, and that's how I voted. -- T. (talk) 04:51, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I see what you are saying, Nintendorulz, but this would give Uncyclopedia a bad reputation, and there are many groups that, if they would see this, would sue us to hell and back. We don't want a repeat of earlier this year with e*********** d********. Laughing now?--Foo21(talk)-(edits)-(block) 15:47, 22 Nov 2005 (UTC)

ok ok, this has gone too far. i'm neatral in this argument but to try and stop this pointless bickering i added a warning like sophia suggested and got rid of drpoodles "edited" stuff. NOW EVERYBODY CALM DOWN!!! ITS ONLY UNCYCLOPEDIA!!! --User:86.141.88.50 19:37, 16 Nov 2005

 • Um, how are you neutral??? You say "i added a warning like sophia suggested in the vfd, and got rid of drpoodles edited message. hope that sorts out everything!" when you delete a fair-size chunk of the article, but according to your edit history, you are none other than User:DrPoodle. ¿Que pasa? --Carlb 20:33, 16 Nov 2005 (UTC)
Has anyone noticed that the TALK page is almost funnier than the Article? I think we should have a new monthly award for the funniest TALK page.....I've voting for this one for November! :) -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
Ditto. --Nintendorulez | talk 21:06, 16 Nov 2005 (UTC)
Let's just replace the article with the talk page text, then, unedited. I still think the swearing gag is lame because it's been done to death. --Not DrPoodle Sq.W (Talk) 21:35, 16 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Actually, it was me. I couldnt log on until today because none of my login info was being saved and i kept logging out whenever i clicked on a link. I think the previous article was...ok, not exactly humourous, but i can see how it can upset people with TS so i deleted the bit that was directly offensive to drpoodle (i.e making a mockery of what he said) and added a warning like sophia suggested. I don't agree with reverting my edits, but if u reverted it to the actual original one i;m sure it would be funnier. --Pokerjoker 18:23, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)

I have Tourette's and have been bullied through school for it - but you know what, "Adrian"? I don't give a fuck. This article is funny - it's not meant to have any factual accuracy (it's intentions are the opposite, in fact) and it seems to have gotten quite a few laughs, including many from myself. Develop a sense of humour. Don't take things so seriously and stop being so politically correct. Tourette's may hinder your ability in life, but a stupid attitude and an inability to laugh at yourself is a lot worse.

Yay! Another Tourette's sufferer on our side. --Nintendorulez | talk 12:35, 21 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Another guy with Tourette's syndrome speaking here, and YES, I find this article funny too! Need more randomness in the swearing though...

Seems to be a huge amount of Tourette's sufferers on Uncyclopedia. Is it a prerequisite for contributing, or do you think it's something that develops through regular TWAT contributions? -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
Hell if I know! --Dac Vin 00:44, 22 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I FUCK have SHIT no BELGIUM idea. --Nintendorulez | talk 01:49, 22 Nov 2005 (UTC)
