English[edit | edit source]

Proper Name[edit | edit source]

Great Satan (uncountable)

  1. a 20th-century American magician and former apprentice to Harry Houdini, who lived a relatively quiet and secluded life until the final years of World War II, when he began using sleight-of-the-hand deceptions to position himself as a rival of the Soviet Union's most powerful sorcerers. Using a few cheap parlor tricks, he managed to convince the world for decades that he was rich and successful, causing the Soviets and Chinese to both eventually decide to start emulating his model. But his ultimate downfall came at the turn of the century, when the now-very-old illusionist traveled to Central Asia and tried to make hornets disappear.
  2. by extension, any other silly capitalist or capitalist country.
