Blink

The blinking text template won't work. How do I fix it?--User:Anonymous8

1st, you click the link at the top and add your problem up here, so we notice it.
2nd, you type:
{{Blink|BlinkingTextHere}}
which gets you:
BlinkingTextHere
3rd, you don't use this ever, unless you want to get banned. If you have a really, really funny place for it, go for it. But if you abuse this or any other template, you will feel my banstick. Unlubed. Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 14:28, 16 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Messed up quotes

It seems that all Oscar Wilde quotes are

“{{{Bush doesn't care about Steve Jobs}}}”

   ~ Oscar Wilde on [[{{{Steve Jobs}}}]]

I'm not sure what's going on or if shomething f...ed up... Regards and Kudos for the best site I've found in years.

Ever since the Great Purge of all the quote templates except for Oscar Wilde's, I've thought quotes shouldn't be in templates at all. Having a template for Oscar Wilde and nobody else seems rather inconsistant. Or something like that. --Nerd42 19:05, 13 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Btw, that was due to a moron editing our basic quote template and messing it up. He got banned. Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 14:28, 16 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Thanks dudes. Cleared my mind for the very last time. I swear.

Problem with page loading

When I tried to load a page on Uncyclopedia today it didn't work. I searched all over and I went to a bunch of different articles but none of them were working. No matter how many images and words appeared on the page, none of it was funny. Could someone please fix this soon, it may be a coding error or something, I'm not an Internet person. -Mr. Crawl 03:37, 5 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Deadendpages Error ?

Possible SQL Injection thingy

if you type bob and george to the search box and click on search, you get some sql error thingy. the reason for this is because for some strange reason, you treat 'and' in the search box as an actual SQL AND keyword

Yes, it appears to be a bug.
No, it does not appear to allow SQL injection.

how do you put a picture in your article i know what to type but when i type the name of the picture i want it says it's missing

Undictionary Links/Targets

I am unable to directly link to an Undictionary entry using the method: Undictionary:A#An_entry where An_entry is the title of the Undictionary entry. I skimmed through the Dump comments on moving to the new Undictionary format, but this problem doesn't seem to have been raised?

Case in point: Apple I redirects to Undictionary:A#Apple_I but it only loads the page (Undictionary:A) and doesn't goto the Apple I entry. Although, using Undictionary:A#A does actually work, taking me to the A header.

--theRealSheep 11:17, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC) using IE6/Win95.

It is actually a limitation of MediaWiki. You can't port over the # anchor in a redirect because the anchor is part of the url, and MediaWiki does not forward the url but replaces the contents of the page with the redirected page's contents. So your url stays uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Apple_I and not uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Apple_I#Apple_I. If you want you could probably use the link thusly: [[Apple I#Apple I|Apple I]] (but that might be annoying to change later). There is no known workaround or fix for this (I asked a developer), you just can't really do redirects with anchors (except to make doubleredirects, bah). --Splaka 11:26, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC)
Well, that was quite helpful - Thank you. I was more worried that the page wasn't scrolling to the anchor when linked (eg. Undictionary:A#Apple_I) or even when typed into address bar but it works now. Perhaps, my hamsters were not running fast enough to power the internet. *wu-tush* --theRealSheep 15:25, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC) using an electric cattle prodder.

Submits Fail

I'm seeing many submits fail, and I'm having to re-submit things multiple times before they go through. Examples:

  • Hitting "Save page" 3-4 times, getting previews, then finally having it save.
  • Rollbacks failing multiple times. After a few tries, it works.

Anyone else having the same issues? Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 23:31, 3 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Yes, most of us are in the IRC chan (discussing it), on most of wikicities. Intermittent rollback/delete/edit failures. --Splaka 23:52, 3 Nov 2005 (UTC)
Jason is looking into it. He took one of the servers offline temporarily (which seems to have fixed the prob). --Splaka 02:36, 4 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Foreign pages

There's a few foreign language pages in the dead end section. Shouldn't these be displaying in their respective wikis ? While I've though of adding invisible links, possibly to Template:Jingoism ;-), or trying to look up at least one word in the foreign wiki's, I thought I'd check here to see if this was an error. I don't suppose anyone has any idea where to link these ? MadMax 22:53, 21 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Lazy idea, do a string replace of " " for "]] [[De:", hit 'preview', see if any word has a link. The problem with and (and) is there are now offsite sister project uncyclipediae for them, so much of the content just goes there. --Splaka 23:04, 21 Oct 2005 (UTC)
To add a link to these? Presumably, you should link to them from the respective language's main page, or, to get them off the liste des orphélins :) --Carlb 18:24, 29 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Dead-end error ?

The article Meatballs and Felch seem to be displayed in the Dead-end pages, despite having internal links. The other pages however seem to have no problem. This seems to be similar to the Excommunication of Everything article (whatever happened to that anyway ?). 70.88.222.77 19:28, 17 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Can article names be corrected?

The article for Intelligent Design is titled "Intelligent design" (note the lowercase D). There appears to be no readily available way to correct capitalization errors, and I understand that you probably do not want people to arbitrarily edit article titles. Could someone convince the wiki's almighty Creator to fix this typo?

Use the move tab and send it to Intelligent Design. --Nytrospawn 18:06, 13 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Intelligent Design redirects to Intelligent design. I don't see that it's a big deal, since either one will get you to the right article. --—rc (t) 18:32, 13 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Datebase query syntax errors

I've been getting a lot of these fellows lately when I try to edit pages:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

Several times a day, I just ignore it (for edits: the info usually went through, for viewing: I just hit reload). Also, I've been getting:
Sorry! The wiki is experiencing some technical difficulties, and cannot contact the database server.

Jason said he's working on that one. --Splaka 00:46, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I don't remember getting that error message. I have the basic same problem. However, if you do write that, or "modify your modifications"/creations twice, in order to get credit, is that an acceptable practice? Trying to conTEMPLATE this

Ok, I added a category to Wacky's Template:NSFWArticle and Template:NSFWImage (so we can find the adult content easier), but the only things that show up in Category:Not safe for work are the templates themselves. I tried moving the cat link to the parent template at Template:Adult warning box and removing it from the other two, but still no go. Oddly enough, the pages marked with the template do have a link to the category (like Cindy_Crawford), but they won't show up in the list! Arg. I did almost the same thing with Category:War Games and Template:Wargame, and it works perfectly. Ideas? --Splaka 23:19, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I've had similar problems on other wikis :( It seems category templates are very flimsy

Occasionally I find that just editing and saving doesn't refresh templates. A more solid way to "refresh" a template on a page is to just drop a comment in and save. No visible modifications to the page that way, and it seems to always refresh the templates when you make a sizable change. --Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 12:54, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Weird-ass Edits

I made 2 edits to the VFD page, the first can be seen here. However, "go to next diff", and you'll see that my second edit wiped out two unconnected edits, including the one I just made. What's really screwed up, is that I edited the "Collegium V" section - those other two sections weren't even on the screen when I wrote that little rant.

And this isn't the first time I've seen it happen - long ago Carlb accidently did the same to me - he made an edit, and my comment in an unrelated section disappeared. I think it was in a discussion in the community portal. He didn't know wtf had happened, and I forgot about it till now. Anyone have any ideas on wtf is going on here? Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 00:17, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Hmm. I assumed the Feesch sockpuppet/stuffer edits to it's VFD yesterday had purposefully removed two other sections below #Feesch. 1. Time for the deleted edits to propigate back into the database. (I did hit refresh to make sure.)

Does anyone know if Main Page/images/ is a legitimate Uncyclopedia page, and if so, is there an error regarding the image file ? 64.12.116.204 17:03, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Prepare thyself for a moderately messed up answer....Generically, all pages are legitimate Uncyclopedia pages. Main Page/images/ is a page. It has nothing to do with Main Page, other than the fact that they start with the same 9 characters. In a wiki, a / is treated like any other character in a page name, NOT as a subdirectory. As it is, that page was QVFD'd yesterday, and whacked by me personally. Because it was broken and useless. In the future, if you spot stuff like that, check the history. If it doesn't have actual content, post it to QVFD. Thanks. --Famine 12:38, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Deleting stubs for being stubs is denying those articles a chance for being improved upon. Try to show some restraint before deleting stubs. Thank you. 204.52.215.107 04:22, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I agree with the parent post, however, if it is totally unfunny having nowhere to go, it gets the trash heap. --Chronarion 18:00, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Like I said in my talk page, I believe the standards for UD are different from those of wikipedia. A lot of people make unfunny stubs and leave them, thinking that they're the zenith of wit. I find that it's more efficient to remove what looks like badly written material and resolve the issue with the poster, rather than let it take up needless space, waste time in qVFD, and potentially encourage other drive-by stub posters to do the same. There are standards here, even if they're invisible and otherwise undetectable.--Flammable CUN 04:26, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I agree with Flammable, the crime is not being a stub ,the crime is being an unfunny stub. Everyone has had articles deleted (this includes admins), if it was a WIP and you want to go back to it, ask an Admin to restore the deleted article and most will oblige.--Sir Elvis KUN | Petition 07:37, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)

As Flammable hinted at, we do have standards - they are invisible, constantly-morphing standards, but we do have them. For the most part, admins delete:

  • Unfunny stubs they can't see going anywhere
  • Stubs that have little linking to them, and thus are unlikely to be stumbled uopn
  • Anything they damn well please

And as Elvis said, if you had a stub and now it's gone, check the deletion log and drop a restore request on the talk page of the admin who deleted it, or in the dump, and someone will help you out. --Famine 13:10, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)

If you stumble upon an unfunny stub, and think of a way to make it funny, then by all means do so. The worst that can happen is that your unfunny change will be deleted, and that's where it was originally headed. Nowhere, I mean. That is, I don't mean anything. Oh, crap. -- Tonymec 14:39, 4 Dec 2005 (UTC)
