Akira Kurosawa[edit source]

The first rewrite of mine for my usergroup. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 21:44, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

OK, so, I plan on re-rewriting this based on the chilly reception it got in VFH. Don't review this until I leave a comment saying it's alright to, please. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 01:53, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Totally rewrote this from scratch, with the exception of reusing a couple of images from my first rewrite. Needless to say, it's ready for review. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 17:17, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey Guildy. I voted against this when you nommed it only for the reason it had no review... I think. Anyway, here I go.   Le Cejak <4:15 Jun 04, 2009>

Humour: 4.6 avg of each section, 7=adequate, yadda yadda
  • Introduction (7/10): I was kinda confused by your having to date everything, but I got over it. I only realized it was a joke by the last sentence. At least you explain who this guy is! Oh, and I basically got it when you said he plagiarized other people to mean they stole ideas off him, correct?
  • Early Life (5/10): The only real joke here was the dating everything part, which, while funny, isn't enough. Did Kurosawa date everything in his movies?
  • Film Career (5/10): Holy god, this is crazy. I liked the talk about the fake beards, and the damn dates are still somehow funny. But that's definitely not enough. His films just aren't that funny, I guess? No, see my concept comment. Why so many links to Wikipedia? That's no good! Cut this section back, man: we don't care about every movie he's ever made.
  • Plagiarism: no score, cuz it's a straight thing.
  • Seven Samurai (1954) (5/10): American (b. 1776) was good. Everything else was kinda dry, though...
  • The Hidden Fortress (1958) (3/10): Gah! Boring! Predictable!
  • Yojimbo (1961) (1/10): It's... it's way too straight forward, or am I missing something?
  • Shakespeare Plagiarizes Kurosawa? (6/10): The reason you got a 9 on concept instead of an 8 is because of this section. Please, please expand. Dear god, make a shakespeare play japanese. Making things japanese makes you famous around here.
Concept: 9 I saw glimpses of this article when it was on VFH: random people yelling japanese things. Funny. But now you need to merge THAT article with THIS one.

I remember how this article used to be, like, a week ago: making fun of japanese period films and talking about your subject in that style. Now that was funny in some parts! But now you have a really too-straight-forward delivery of this guy's movies, which is not very interesting. Isn't there anything you could add? Idea: Remember the article you did on Andrei Tarkovsky? You probably do. Anyhow, do sections on the different movies by Kurosawa in the way he actually did the movies. Choose the weirdest ones, unless you can make fun of the dramatic movies easily.

Plus that last section. Shakespeare! It's not completely original, but here it kinda works. Talk about how Shakespeare plagiarized from him!

You should probably go more random near the end. Make connections between movies that make no sense, like "The Japanese Warrior Defends His Honor" and "Transformers 2: This Time They're NOT Robots" or "Godzilla" or something! Jeez, this has a lot of things you could do (which is why it's a 9 on concept, but only 5 or so on humor)

Keep the plagiarism sections, though. Just have new sections that make fun of the weirdo loser movies he made. Seriously. Throw the kitchen sink at this article: there's a lot to work with here if you cut back on the film history of this guy.

Prose and formatting: 9 It's good. Very professional. Some spelling errors, though, took this from a 10 to a 9.
Images: 5 Pictures good. Captions epic snoozefest. Those pictures are so weird! You could do lots of things with 'em.
Miscellaneous: 6.9 {{Pee}}
Final Score: 34.5 see concept score. That covered it all. NOTE: This has the biggest gap in Humor and Concept I've ever given. Usually, they're really close together...
