Uncyclopedia Image

I would buy a t-shirt with the egg puzzle on it. Does this site have a CafePress store? --AnalAlien 15:20, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Nope, we don't. However, presumably the picture is licensed under CC, you're welcome to download the image, and stick it on a t-shirt yourself and make one. Murphy, is there a larger version? --Sophia 22:30, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
CC is a free license for non-commercial purposes, so basically you could make the shirt to wear it but not to sell it? --Carlb 22:34, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
That's correct. You may not sell the shirt for a profit to other people. You however, may convince RC Murphy to give you a special license though, as an exception. We are specifically NC, so as long as it's for personal use, that's fine. If you want to give gifts to people, that's fine too. Just don't profit from it, start advertising on your site for it, etc. As the owner of the copyright of the image, RC Murphy may presumably use his image and his connection to the site to obtain world domination. You'll have to deal it out with him, and i'll be his chef. --Sophia 22:35, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Neato! Unfortunately I don't have any polished versions of the image that are any bigger. Sorry...it could be scaled and sharpened a bit, but at that size it's going to look like mush before it gets much larger. Maybe I shouldn't have used such a runty potato. --Rcmurphy 01:57, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

pencil

Awk, they be no pencils here, matey!

Instead of a pencil, can the image be of a crayon? --Nytrospawn 16:02, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Where do you see a pencil? --Sophia 19:14, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Undictionary? The pencil was originally uploaded for one of the stub templates {{stub1}} or {{stub2}} and a stack of pencil-related multilingual text (which may or may not be sharp) appears on M:How_to_start_a_new_Uncyclopedia but Undictionary:A-Z would be the most visible to have just happened to reuse that one icon. No real attachment to pencils vs. crayons for the manufacture of ick!tionaries; one just happened to be at hand at the time that the (then nearly-empty) Undictionary became the new dumping ground for one-liners not unfunny enough for QuickVFD but not long enough to have the makings of a Uncyclopedia article stub. --Carlb 20:38, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

If you want to be technical, a prismatic coloring implement as opposed to wax coloring implement. I forgot what I wanted to say. --Nytrospawn

A.C.

May I push here for wider spread use of the A.C. (After Cheese) system of time measurement? It's much funnier and even less accurate than the conventional year counting system, and it can teach us all something about ourselves. --Cowation 02:05, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes! --Sophia 19:14, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

And while I'm on my soap box...

I think there should be more -ation articles where people turn into things. It could be a recurring joke. explodingsheepation?, killerkittenation?, killerlawyeration? --Cowation 02:05, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Eeeh, don't beat it to death! --Sophia 19:15, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Or write it, and if'n it's not funny, we kill you...err it...the article (and you) no, not you...maybe--slack 19:00, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Requested Articles

I know this was replaced by "Featured Writer", but could both be up there on the front page? It was always nice to have new stuff to think about there... --Dave 20:16, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Fuck no. I mean... sorry. I flew off the handle. Seriously, though, I think that the requested articles box was mostly a waste of space. You could start a seperate page for it, but it was not a very efficient use of space on the front page. --Savethemooses 21:12, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Vote on it if it is wanted. --68.237.52.2 00:30, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • IMHO? wouldn't object to it being on (or linked from) the top of this page, but the front page? No. The main page should not be a mess of red links as it's the most visible page of all. --Carlb 20:59, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
How about this front page (I moved a bunch of links to their own happy little box at the bottom) and this request page? --Rcmurphy 21:17, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Looks good; I've added the beta links alongside the existing {{languages}} links, until someone finds a better spot for 'em... --Carlb 21:43, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Votes for sysop/bureaucrat?

The section of this page where votes for sysop or bureaucrat status were held was arbitratily removed by a sysop and nothing ever came of the votes which were current at the time of said removal. Should bureaucratic votes be held on a page of its own so that this sort of thing doesn't happen in the future? --EvilZak 08:46, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oops, when I archived all of that I thought that the sysop votes had finished. A seperate page is a good idea, though. --Savethemooses 12:32, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Someone make EvilZak an admin already. PLEASE. He does a LOT of the vandalism reverting as it is. Things would be smoother if he could just ban the suckers. Also if we need another bureaucrat, I'm available. --Rcmurphy 21:20, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

IRC channel #uncyclopedia on FreeNode

Channel #uncyclopedia on FreeNode appears to be without much in the way of official owners. I understand Angela is a chanop at present. Not that there's a lot of chitchat on it. I'm on it a lot of the time of late (logged in, if not actually active) - I can often be found on #wikipedia (oddly enough) - David Gerard 13:09, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Emmanuel Chanel registered the channel, but I've just found out I can make ops there, so I've made you one too (level 29 is the highest I'm allowed to assign). Angela 04:01, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
T3H PW03R! T3H PW03R! MUWAHAHAHAHA! *ahem* I promise to use my powers of good only for evil. IRC is fascist by technical construction anyway - David Gerard 08:23, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Shared IP users

141.85.0.67 (TalkContribs (del)Block (rem-lst-all)WhoisCityProxy?WP Edits) Claims to be shared amongst a Uni Hall of Residence, this IP recently blanked Romania, Do we have a policy about what to do with IP's like this, is there anyway to force users from IP's identified as shared to register?, If I block this IP will it auto-block anyone who tries to register a user using this IP as well?--Elvis 10:23, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

IMO, "sucks to be them." MediaWiki bug 550 is for IP blocks to only affect anon users, but it hasn't been fixed yet. - David Gerard 13:09, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

An hour of read-only access tomorrow

Uncyclopedia and Wikicities will be read-only for a period sometime between 06:00 and 08:00 (UTC) on June 15 for the setting up of database replication. This should last about an hour. Sorry for any inconvenience, but this replication will guarantee your data is more secure in future. We expect the site to be available during this time, but it will not be editable. Angela 00:52, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Seems to be editable now --Elvis 10:23, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Uncyclopedia:VFH. QED - David Gerard 01:15, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The "impregnating schoolgirls" spam

One user keeps posting and reposting spam quantities of text about impregnating schoolgirls to a long list of articles:

(and yes, I've reverted more than once)

I've temporarily protected a few of these pages for now, but might be worth keeping an eye on contribs just in case I've missed any. --Carlb 04:38, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I blocked him for a day just to stop the revert wars, but looking though his contributions now, I'm not seeing anything of value. Should a lengthier ban be implemented? Discuss. --Rcmurphy 05:19, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

On further inspection, I'm quite certain he left us nothing of value. Also we might want to keep an eye on user:Devkyu. --Rcmurphy 06:03, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Go ban the idjit. he deserves it. --PantsMacKenzie 14:39, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I got an email from him explaning the situation. He apologized for the trouble stemming from his edits (and he says that he didn't know it was an admin reverting his edits, otherwise he would have stopped). He also wrote a Bruce Campbell article that had potential and wasn't all mindless schoolgirl weirdness. I've unblocked him and asked him to post here with his own explanation. --Rcmurphy 18:56, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
This brings up an interesting point... should there be an email address that people can send mail to concerning the site? I mean, other than whatever Chron's email is. I've got tons of gmail invites, I can create as many as needed. I figure for names, uncyclopedia, uncyclopediaBanAppeal, err... maybe sysops want one? dunno, just a thought. --PantsMacKenzie 22:37, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Would Probably be better setting up Mailing lists (i.e. Majordomo(sp?), Smartgroups, Yahoo groups, etc.). This would mean that 1) No need to publish our email address on the web, 2. If a message was sent to the "Sysops" list then all sysops would get it (and could concievable act on it) does wikicities have this capability? --Elvis 10:17, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Content-free (?)

Since "content-free" on the front page is currently a redundant link to Uncyclopedia:Browse, could it instead be changed to point to my article Content-free? Huh? Huh? Oh, pleeeaassse, I'll be good, I promise!  :-) --DWIII 10:37, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Aye You've got my vote. However, Content-free really could use some additional work. It's kind of sparse at the moment. Can anyone expand it a little? --Famine 13:11, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
And there we go. I added quite a bit of content to the page. I think it's well on its way to being a frontpage uncyclopedia article. If someone is brave enough to do some linkage in my edit, it would be complete. I need more coffee... --Famine 13:31, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Done. --Carlb 18:31, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

+1 Brilliant. If there are words from the forked article though, you really must quote the source. --Chronarion 23:31, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The source is a mix of a bunch of different things. This slashdot article had a link to a company's website where they stated "Leveraging our paradigm-shifting product line with state of the art technology developed by a dedicated team of professionals, we offer a significant competitive advantage on the diversified but fragmented market of best of breed anti-spam solutions." The company appears to be fradulant, and the page was created as a joke.
A slashdot poster took this statement and ran with it in another thread. However, that post is a mix of several different posts between the two threads, and all, I believe, are either examples from real companies, or come from the Dilbert Mission Statement Generator. After wasting 20 minutes digging into this, I'm inclined to remove the spork I originally put there, since everyone is borrowing from everyone else. And I've since modified the original text a bit. --Famine 01:43, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Heh. I like the mystery-meat "see also" links - David Gerard 11:20, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It's nice. I like it! --Mathew 12:23, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Updates etc

Where is the page for requesting updates etc? My link from monarchs to country goes to something completely different. Jackiespeel 10:01, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

If you want to edit a page that redirects to something (like "To be Deleted" as in the case of country for instance) then click on the link under the title of the page redirected to too (the "(Redirected from country)" bit) you will then get to a page who's content will be somthing like #REDIRECT [[Uncyclopedia:To Be Deleted]] Remove that and insert your articles text! (You might want to flag up the fact that you have done this on the Uncyclopedia:To Be Deleted entry in case the bug is fixed and they are all automagically purged as well. --Elvis 10:14, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • I've changed Country to redirect to nation, (which still doesn't fit the "we have both types of music here, country and western" joke but otherwise basically makes sense). --Carlb 16:21, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

"To be deleted" pages

A possible alternative to the current "#REDIRECT TBD" approach: the "can't delete block-compressed revisions" bug won't allow the pages to be deleted outright, but some things we still can do to these pages include:

  • Redirect them to existing articles on the same or similar topic, if available
  • Edit them to replace them with useful content
  • Move them to another title so that the old article name becomes available for deletion and re-use
  • Swap the titles (for instance if Elf is a short stub, Elves impersonators is the better article, we want to keep history and move Elves to Elf but hit the block-compressed revision bug, swap as follows:
    • Consolidate both pages onto the main article, in this case Elves
    • Move Elf to Elfen (which doesn't exist)
    • Move Elves to Elf, taking talk pages and history with it.
    • Move Elfen to Elves and edit it to be '#REDIRECT Elf'
    • Delete (optionally) any redirects left on the temporary Elfen page.

Perhaps one possibility would be to create some section of the main name space, perhaps TBD/article names... as a dumping ground to which to move articles to be deleted, then delete the redirect pages created during the move. A kludge, but it puts all the junk in (sort-of) one place, leaving a clean slate in the rest of the main article space. (Note: "move" won't work for category pages) Just an idea which I've mostly used as a way to break links instead of having regular articles show Uncyclopedia:To_be_deleted items as if they were live links... comments? --Carlb 16:21, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Seems sensible and seems to work, will use this from now on and at somepoint retrofit my existing TBD's to it. --Elvis 21:48, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Quick Vfd Link?

Anyway to make it so when something is quick VFDed it will pop up with a quick VFD link on the actual page? or a {{ }} command for quick vfd? i might have missed it. --Dave 15:39, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

You could create a version of Template:Vfd specifically for QuickVFD but I don't think there is a way to Automagically to add it to QuickVFD, I'm not sure how many people would use a {{QuickVFD}} as the pages are (in theory) not long for this world, unlike normal VFD's which undergo a period of discusion/voting. The other alternative is to use the method I used for Move to Undictionary (did I spell it right this time? :-) which adds the pages to a category for easy listing the problems with this are that there is no way to flag a page as having been moved to to Normal VFD, To Be Deleted, etc. which we currently have with the QuickVFD page.--Elvis 16:03, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, that is specifcially what i am looking for, something like {{QVFD}} that will Automagically add it to quick VFD and drop a stub like graphic on the page. Gonna start looking through templates to see if i can figure it out. --Dave 15:12, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Delete would drop it into a "to be deleted" category (a category, not a QuickVFD page) and just may be of use to flag newbie tests, leftover redirects/name typos, empty articles and items where the author changed their mind about creating an entry. --Carlb 16:36, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Recent Changes (IP Users only)

I certainly don't advocate logged on edits only but does any of you wikimedia wizzes know of a way to get a recent changes list made by IP users only, I'm not wishing to cast aspersions but most spam/vandalism/crap seems to come from them so being able to only see there edits would make patrolling recent changes easier, likewise a logged in users recent changes would be useful as well. --Elvis 09:47, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC) OK I'm an idiot--Elvis 13:11, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Writer of the Month Picture

We need a fancy template to put on the User Pages of winners of the suddenly known-about Writer of the Month award. I'd like a golden potato trophy-type thing. I also put in a request at the Requested Pictures page. Thanks! --Savethemooses 23:43, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Donez0r3d. RadicalX designed his own frickin trophy. --Savethemooses 13:14, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It feels kinda cheap when you say it that way...Like I got second place in a horseshoes tournament when there were only two participants...=P --RadicalX 16:02, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

June Entries!!!

We are on red alert for June entries! Move, move move!!!! MAKE SOME NOW!!!!AUUGHGHGH --Savethemooses 17:11, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Since the start of june, there have been almost 500 entries. This is unacceptable. You people must be slacking off. Go forth! Multiply! Make things funny!! I expect to see at least another thousand by week's end or you don't get paid! --PantsMacKenzie 20:36, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Also, we need some for the Anniversary section. --Savethemooses 21:38, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

THAT'S RIGHT tell 'em STM, slacking is MY bit! actually I've been doing actual work, but erm...I'll probably wrtie some this weekend--slack 15:35, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I just created 3 kickass articles today! wyaghwyiga! (happy dance) --Savethemooses 17:58, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Vote on Writer Highlight

Okay, time to vote on the Writer of the Month highlight that I put on Uncyclopedia:Beta. Yay or nay on replacing requested articles with a Writer of the Month box. P.S., anybody who wants to change the box's appearance to make it fancier go ahead.

Yay --Savethemooses 16:21, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
Nay --Algorithm 19:20, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
Yea: However, do change the colour. --stillwaters/Talk 06:53, 27 May 2005 (EDT)
Yayish It's getting there, but the navigation box has been dropped to the bottom of the page. I'd hack it into shape, but I'm drunk, and thus am an "eh fuck it" coder rather than my usual "It must be correct!" self. --Famine 22:04, 27 May 2005 (EDT)
Anybody in the mood can fix the layout. I'm no computer guy, I'm an idea man. --Savethemooses 14:09, 28 May 2005 (EDT)
Yesh, but...; could it also feature a select article (primarily) from that writer, and/or point to a few of her/his others? The best of both worlds, so to speak... --DWIII 18:48, 28 May 2005 (EDT)
That's the plan. --Savethemooses 19:17, 28 May 2005 (EDT)-

I added a link to the requested articles box so more people will vote. Hopefully. We need a final verdict on this and somebody to pretty it up. --Savethemooses 20:50, 31 May 2005 (EDT)

Yea I edited Uncyclopedia:Beta and Template:MonthlyAwards. How's it look? I also added a link to the Noob of the Month page, but I don't know if anyone is still interested in doing that. --Rcmurphy 01:20, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Yay I like it. --Repairman Jack 13:01, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Me likes. We could definitely move this to the main page now. We need a tiebreaker on May, though. Also, I don't know if the newbie thing will pan out. We could have a vote on that if so desired. --Savethemooses 16:05, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I broke the tie (RadicalX got my vote in a close race) and I'll add the template to the main page. For links to his articles I mainly chose ones that haven't been highlighted on the main page yet. Also, I removed the Noob of the Month link; I don't think that one's ready for prime time yet. --Rcmurphy 18:32, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, ya bastard. Oh well, there's always this month :P --Savethemooses 19:28, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Oh, quit whining! Just because you're way funnier than me doesn't mean you get to be Writer of the Month...It's just like at Burger King...do you think their Employee of the Month is really their best employee? I mean...LOOK at the guy!! =P Oh, well...go for it this month, man. You can DO it! --RadicalX 04:43, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Seeing as how Im very late to this vote, I will have my vote immediately disqualified --Nytrospawn 01:20, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Out of ideas?

This site made me laugh. It seems to have a lot of uncyclopedia like humor. Might be good for ideas or inspiration. --Paulgb Talk 18:56, 28 May 2005 (EDT)

Did anyone notice these aren't showing in the Classic skin? I didn't actually realise there were Google ads until I checked Uncyclopedia as an anon user in a different browser ... - David Gerard 14:15, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

They only show up in Monobook. I personally am scared of the other skins greatly. Should you use the other skins, I fear for your life. --Chronarion 14:19, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

Site news!

Uncyclopedia is moving in with Wikia!

I talked to the fun fellows at Wikia, and they're gonna host us! There is some irony in being hosted with Wikia (Wikipedia founder Jimbo's company :-P). Soon, we'll be moving in with them, the host of fellow wikis as WikiCities, and Memory Alpha, which you may have heard of. We're given the option of merging our user spaces, so we can have one unified login across all of Wikicities.

Doing this means that you get an automatic login on all WikiCity sites, and Memory Alpha, and vice versa. Userspaces that conflict would let us keep our logins on our site, and have an extra account with a different name on the other sites.

Should we do this, or keep seperate namespaces? If we merge, we'll have more of a community feel across all the sites, which is probably good for Wikia, and us, since it expands our traffic. What do you guys think?

--Chronarion 02:18, 26 May 2005 (EDT)

No merging userdb: It hurts Uncyclopedia's community-feel, and is unnecessary; Uncyclopedians who use Wikicities probably already have accounts there. --stillwaters/Talk 04:09, 26 May 2005 (EDT)

Neutral on this issue now. --stillwaters/Talk 23:47, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Just to clarify - it would only be the database that would be merged - not the pages in the user namespace. You can still have a separate user page on each wiki. In fact, at the moment, you have to have a separate user page on each wiki, but we are looking at the possibility of giving users the option of choosing either a global user page or a separate one on each wiki. Wikicities is still very new, so just because people editing here don't have accounts there now doesn't mean they won't find a home in a Wikicity that will be created in the future. We're aiming on having a wiki for every topic, so I'm sure you'll find a reason to edit there one day.
Anyway, whether you choose a shared database or not, we're very pleased to be hosting this wiki and I'd like to welcome you all to Wikia! Angela 05:47, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
Cool. I am a member of wikicities too, so I don't mind the user setup either way. --Paulgb Talk 09:44, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
Only problem that would worry me is people that find that someone else has already got their username (no one has taken elvis as yet, and I've just reg'd just in case) so you end up with two people having the same username and eithier one or the other has to change.--Elvis 10:03, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
No one would have to change. You're Elvis on Uncyclopedia, and you always will be. :) If there's an Elvis on Wikicities, then you'd need to create a separate account there, but not here (you'd automatically get one at Wikicities called Elvis-Uncyclopedia or whatever was chosen, but you could just pick a new name). The Elvis on Wikicities would still be called Elvis at Wikicities. If they came here, they'd be called Elvis-Wikicities (unless they chose a new name for this wiki). Angela 13:04, 26 May 2005 (EDT)

Neutral I think seperate users is nifty, but the other thing is nifty too. --Chronarion 20:08, 26 May 2005 (EDT)

So when is the move happening? Or has it already happened and I just havn't noticed it? Anyway, I think we should have a massive cleanup soon, the quality of articles has gone down a bit over the last few months. Mainly clearing up stubs, requested rewrites, and short articles. --Paulgb Talk 14:27, 29 May 2005 (EDT)

I'm still working on it.. Yeah, and I gotta move ASAP. I'm at DB capacity now. --Chronarion 23:27, 29 May 2005 (EDT)

That thing with the thing, sounds good --Nytrospawn 21:18, 31 May 2005 (EDT)

Famine and Elvis have requested SysOp. If anyone else is also requesting SysOp status, request it here now, a vote will go into progress. If anyone wants Bureacrat powers, that is, the ability to appoint sysops, nominate yourself please.

Do we really need more people with Bureacrat powers, since any use of the powers would require a vote anyway? If we do, I wouldn't mind having Bureacrat powers. --Paulgb Talk 09:42, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
The reasoning is that I have very, very little time to work on Uncyc, due to real life things. I'm interested in allowing autonomy and stuff, in running things. --Chronarion 19:59, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
Ok, I'll add my name for bureacrat then. --Paulgb Talk 19:07, 28 May 2005 (EDT)

Famine

  • For Healthy lad. --Chronarion 15:06, 25 May 2005 (EDT)
  • For A little famine never hurts anyone. --stillwaters/Talk 15:13, 25 May 2005 (EDT)
  • For If we can't have Pestilence, I suppose Famine is the next best thing. --Rcmurphy 00:45, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
  • For --Paulgb Talk 09:42, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
  • For Man... I'm hungry. You better do a good job. (I'm sure you will) --PantsMacKenzie 17:24, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

Elvis

  • For Angsty, but fat. --Chronarion 15:06, 25 May 2005 (EDT)
I saw this and thought "Jesus, I've got a stalker" then realised who you were talking about......--Elvis 10:05, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
Yup, but we need the counterweight of fat vs. famine to achieve balance. --Carlb 18:39, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • For Hail to the King, baby. --stillwaters/Talk 15:13, 25 May 2005 (EDT)
  • For Though I'm more of a Beatles fan myself. --Rcmurphy 00:45, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
  • For --Paulgb Talk 09:42, 26 May 2005 (EDT)
  • For You seem to be a upright fellow. At least I recognize your name ^_^ --PantsMacKenzie 17:24, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

That's all well and fine, but will they use their new powers for good, or awesome?--slack 12:01, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

Errr, this scares the hell out of me. Chronarion, you did notice that Elvis & I both used language along the lines of "if anyone is stupid to SysOp us, we're stupid enough to accept", right? Key word being stupid enough? I..I..I was kidding! No, really - it's all a big misunderstanding! If I get sysoped I'll have to do stuff! Like make decisions! I can't handle that pressure! I want to be an unwashed hippy! But, er, I am flattered. Excuse me, I must go tend to my ego. It has apparently gotten quite large in that last 24 hours.../me looks for a bigger hat --Famine 17:17, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

I didn't need a vote, cuz I'm sooo cool. Neener, neener! --Savethemooses 20:14, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

Image Update Not Working?

I'm trying to update the illustration for the Jesus article, but the thumbnail remains as the old one. If you click through, you get to see my newer version. --IMBJR 08:04, 24 May 2005 (EDT)

It maybe a cache eithier on your system or on your ISP or something, have you tried clicking refresh whilst holding down shift and/or control? (BTW both version seem the same to me sort of showing that it's updated) --Elvis 12:37, 24 May 2005 (EDT)

Ctrl-Refresh did the trick in MSIE. I'll have to see If Firefox will do the same. --IMBJR 07:38, 25 May 2005 (EDT)

Try putting “&action=purge” after the URL of the page you're refreshing. That should do the trick. --Algorithm 01:17, 26 May 2005 (EDT)

Homestar VFD Template

Looks what I made. {{Template:Baleeted}} Enjoy. --Savethemooses 18:21, 18 May 2005 (EDT)

Baleeted2.jpg This page makes Homestar want to chainsaw kittens. Please VFD.

Aaaaaand another. Customizable, even. --Rcmurphy 00:07, 20 May 2005 (EDT)

Question, WTF is a Homestar? Awwww, he's cute though!--slack 20:38, 23 May 2005 (EDT)

Totally cool! --Savethemooses 21:09, 23 May 2005 (EDT)

I agree, Homestar has received my seal of Approval...however, shouldn't the 'Total Crap” template feature the “Poopsmith”?--slack 17:47, 25 May 2005 (EDT)

  • Which one? We seem to have both {{Message_box| message=This {{{1|page}}} is a piece of crap. The author(s) acknowledge this. | heading = PIECE OF CRAP WARNING!| image = Stop_crap.png}} and {{crapstub}}, not sure how many others... --Carlb 15:43, 27 May 2005 (EDT)
Stop crap.png
PIECE OF CRAP WARNING!
This page is a piece of crap. The author acknowledges this fact.

Indeed we doo. Haha, I typed that by accident. Anyhoo, yes I created that first Crap template a few months ago. I believe Uvula provided the picture. Ah, I remember those days. --Savethemooses 20:30, 27 May 2005 (EDT)

The Homestar one

Asdasdasdaasd.JPG
Baleeted!!!' This page is totowl cwap. Please VFD.
This page is total crap. Please VFD.

I think Poopsmith should be shoveling on it...but as I have no idea how to do it...--slack 12:07, 31 May 2005 (EDT)

Team Photo

I am going to create a uncyclopedia team photo. Anyone interested can provide a photo for me. The photo does not have to be of you of course, that would be no fun. I am expecting pictures of presidents, cartoon charachters, animals, superheroes, etc. Photos can be linked or posted here, or emailed to paulgb (at) gmail (dot) com. Also, I think it will be easy to find a “normal” background, but if anyone has any zany ideas or pictures for a background, that would be awesome. This is also posted in the village dump, because I posted it there by mistake (BTW, Mr. T is too obvious)--Paulgb Talk 19:13, 11 May 2005 (EDT)

Updated my photo to the whole, sexy me! --wibblewobble 10:55, 17 May 2005 (EDT)
  • Even if nobody can be him, Mr. T is definitely a necessary part of Team Uncyclopedia. He pities the fool who doesn't include him. --Orborde 13:25, 13 May 2005 (EDT)
  • Yah, he will be in there if I have room, but he is too obvious for a user. --Paulgb Talk 21:00, 15 May 2005 (EDT)
  • I am the guy in the front row, second from the left, in this picture: Media:YKK.jpg --EvilZak 13:43, 13 May 2005 (EDT)
  • Seeing as how I've now written roughly 8,000 articles in the past two days, I now consider myself a fully licensed member of the Uncyclopedia community. I will now talk to the rest of you as if I've known you all my life and pretend I get all the various in-jokes, then ask someone over AIM what it actually means. And I'm busy on developing quite a superiority complex around here, and I'm happy to report I'm making very good headway on that. Anyway, me: fake actual and portaying Franz Kafka (but looking kinda like Jon Stewart). --Spooner 15:17, 15 May 2005 (EDT)
  • This one will do for me: [1]. (Also, I need one of these suits in real life.) --Mindspillage 00:42, 16 May 2005 (EDT)

--Are you that hot IRL (Iny Racing League)? slacky likes! (hopes you're a chickie)--slack 18:51, 16 May 2005 (EDT)

  • Here is a picture of me working at CryoLife before the infamous 12 hour lan game which led to me being fired. And I even said I'd mop up! --Famine 09:06, 22 May 2005 (EDT)
  • Add me. I look something like this: www.starwars.jp/character/image/thok.jpg --Gartogg 13:19, 26 May 2005 JDT
  • I have been working on the team photo in my limited spare time, and I have a lot of images with good alpha channels. If anyone can find a good background, I can start putting some of the images together. If not I will probably google for a random setting. --Paulgb Talk 09:35, 28 May 2005 (EDT)
  • Here's mine. [2]--Savethemooses 18:58, 11 May 2005 (EDT)
  • Make sure to put some of our heads on other peoples bodies. --Nytrospawn 17:40, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Well, I havn't had much free time lately, but I finally finished it. It is at Image:Teamphoto.jpg. If anyone is not in it, it was my mistake not intentional, so just leave a message on my talk page. I will get back to you in about a month. --Paulgb Talk 15:19, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Scheduled downtime tomorrow morning

Tomorrow (7 June) at 7am UTC (3am Eastern Standard Time, 9am Central Europe), all of Wikia's servers are moving to a new colocation facility across the street. Uncyclopedia will be completely unavailable during this. We are moving at the request of our colo facility, which is putting us into their new fancy facility, since they are planning on shutting down the old one. Our IP numbers and the machines themselves will be unchanged, so you should not notice any difference once the site is back up. A complete set of backups of all databases, images, and configuration files will be made before the move occurs. The move should take no more than a few hours, but please check the offsite status page or the #wikicities IRC channel on freenode for updates. We're sorry to cause this downtime to you all so soon after you came to Wikia's servers. Angela Beesley 15:31, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I can't seem to access the irc channel... --Savethemooses 16:44, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Can you access other channels on freenode? Do you have an IRC client? Whilst the site is up, you can access IRC via the web at irc.wikicities.com but that won't work once the move is in progress. There is a help page at meta. Angela 18:24, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The portion of the move that affects Wikicities, et al, is mostly complete, modulo some intermittent outages until 2100UTC if someone working on the Wikipedia part of the move pulls the wrong wire. See here and here for ongoing details.

Chad from Florida?

  • If I didn't know this site better, I'd think this was another 2000 election joke... Chad from Florida wandering off with both Wiki and Uncyclopedia at three in the morning [3] and claiming he's "just heading across the street"??? --Carlb 01:19, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Yep, that's what happened. Chad promised "to deliver all of Wikipedia's users to George W. Bush". Oh, no; wait...

Main Page

What happened to the "Make an Article" section? --Nytrospawn 22:50, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Welcome to Uncyclopedia. I believe you can find your answer here. If you need any additional help, you can drop a line in my User Page. ;) --Famine 02:14, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
What the shazbot?! I thought it was clearly known that I have difficulties reading. --Nytrospawn 01:14, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hot damn! --Nytrospawn 01:56, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

WTF?

I tried to ban the guy who vandalized the Main Page templates, but I got this:

Sysop access required
From Uncyclopedia
The action you have requested can only be performed by users with "sysop" status. See
Uncyclopedia:Administrators.
Return to Main Page.

It frickin logs me out or something! Help! --Savethemooses 16:01, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

That's weird. I don't know why that's happening. I blocked the user, though. --Darkdan 18:58, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I think the {{IP|x.x.x.x}} template is borked if you notice when you use the block it drops you to a wikicities URL.--Elvis 00:30, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Good call, Elvis. The wikicities move broke it, and someone tried to fix it by changing the template, but they still didn't manage to fix it. Works now though. --Paulgb Talk 22:33, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
