All things old are new again. "Then" spin meets "Now" spin in a dizzying tale of doublespeak. --Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 18:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Incidentally, this is probably the most disquieting piece I've ever written. I almost gave up and put it into QVFD a couple of times. I don't know if that's a good sign or not.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 08:56, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

From Pee Review[edit source]

  • Occasionally I write something that makes me wonder if I've crossed the line. This was one of those times; after the Holocaust Tycoon kerfuffle I wrote this as an attempt to make a bad taste subject funny. Rereading it a month later, I'm still unsure...(that Zim tripped on one of the slurs gives me pause; you can almost hear him suck all the air out of the room as he hits it, pauses, then says "I'm not going to say that word."). Except for the "spin", most of it is true, incidentally ("One step away from reality" should probably be my motto. It would be better than my current one, "You gonna finish that sammich?"). --Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 05:56, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Humour: 6 Normally Modus, I find your work hysterical... This is still funny, but its sheer poker-faced cynicism sours it slightly. I realise the heart of the satire is in its seeming seriousness, but to save it from the crushingly depressing nature of its subject matter it might need a little more absurdism- for example, the line "Karaoke, planned for that evening, as well as a book burning and the swimsuit competition, were cancelled at the last minute due to inclement weather." is beautifully judged, thanks to the addition of the swimsuit competition bit. A little more like that, and this could be a hilarious story. (nb. if that's an actual line-up at a rally and you want to keep going with the rampant truthfulness then you may need to dig up a few more bizarre ideas like that. I seem to remember (not that I was there or anything) the Hitler youth having to do some comically wholesome stuff in between their maths lessons, which involved questions such as "An average Jew takes x money from German workers. There are y Jews. How much money would there be if all the Jews were deported?").
Concept: 9 Brilliant- especially the parallel of the burning of the Reichstag with 9/11 (gotta love them highbrow edu-ma-cated jokes)
Prose and formatting: 9 I thought it could perhaps be broken up a little more, but then I tend to be intimidated by large chunks of text in uncyc articles because they're usually completely unreadable- not so here, thankfully...
Images: 8 Maybe one more, but the ones there maintain the tone nicely.
Miscellaneous: 10 N/A
Final Score: 42 Probably the best unnews I've read in a while, but I feel it needs to be lifted out of the macabre a little. That is of course, my opinion- if you think it would ruin the acerbic tone then you're probably best off ignoring me.

Wow! How long did it take to type that? /me scratches chin. I filled out an existing bit (take that, Goering!), but I may have painted myself into a literary corner; the dry delivery is critical (The straightfaced newspapery background bits/colour commentary and Yosef's blissful ignorance of the truth add punch, while couched in doubletalk to avoid being too down, while Hitler's nutty accent "lightens" a bit his hateful and paranoid ranting, without pushing the page from satire to parody). It's fighting the fact that you know what happens next...originally I almost changed Yosef to Himmler, but left him in as it's another story layer (plus he's the face of the human element). My problem is when I picture Nazi comedy I always picture a Mel Brooks farce, which is not the direction I want to go. I'll add and tweak more, if I can figure more out.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 03:20, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
