As shown above, the Giants and Jets both passed through Manhattan on their way to the Meadowlands.

New York(UNN) The island of Manhattan is reeling today from a mystery stench that appeared just hours after the NFL's New York Jets and New York Giants returned home from their playoff losses at New England and Philadelphia repectively.

The origin of the odor is unknown. What is known at this time is that the cloud of stench hangs between La Guardia Airport, where the two teams arrived, and Meadowlands Sports Complex, where both teams call home.

Seven people reported to hospitals in New Jersey today after passing near the Meadowlands. They appeared to be fine, though, and attributed this to an easterly wind that blew the stench away from them and toward Manhattan.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg called the odor "terrible", much like the performance of the Jets on Sunday. "While the cause of the odor is unknown," Bloomberg said, "we're fairly certain it has something to do with either Eric Mangini or Eli Manning."

The Jets and Giants organizations both played down these accusations. Mangini said, "I may stink, but my players stink, too. This whole team stinks. But so do the Giants."

Such smells have occurred in the past, and as recently as this year. Shortly after the Detroit Tigers arrived in New York, a smell was detected coming from Yankee Stadium, accompanied by a strange "sucking" sound. Also, horrible stenches have been produced in past years in the area of Shea Stadium.

Paris Hilton's Manhattan apartment has not been ruled out.
