NFL franchise the Washington Redskins have sought an end to the controversy over their nickname - by renaming themselves the Rhettskins, after Gone With The Wind's Rhett Butler.

Team owner Bruce Allen revealed that he has reluctantly made the decision after encountering much political opposition when seeking a site for a potential new stadium for the team.

"This has obviously been a painful choice, because we very much identify ourselves with a caricatured offensive slur," Allen told a press conference. "But we felt with 'Rhettskins', the change will be extremely easy for fans, especially when they talk about the team, and Clark Gable's brooding profile just sealed the deal."

However, while native American groups have welcomed the change, African American groups have been quick to point out the potential offensiveness of the new name. Joanna Corey, the suspiciously white looking president of African American Awareness Association (AAAA), told UnNews: "Gone with the Wind is one of the most notorious symbols of apologists for slavery. I can't think of a more despicable symbol for a city like Washington - with its huge black community - to adopt."

In response, Allen told reporters, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn," wiping tears from his eyes and shaking uncontrollably with laughter at his own quip.
