Who is Pedobear?

We can really use an article on Pedobear that won't be like every other one that's been made here in the past four years--one that won't get huffed. I want to stay away from the obvious, so no Pedobear as a sexual predator (although he could have been accused of that). I want to portray him a world-known icon of traditional, wholesome values.

But I haven't figured out the specifics. I'd like to mix the portrayal of Pedobear with those of a real icon, so there are some suggestions below on characters we can base his portrayal on. (No, this won't be an article that's really about some other character with the name "Pedobear" substituted. But I think it will give a handle for a beginning.) Feel free to add your own suggestions of a character or whatever.

Here's the situation

Problem: Pedobear is a chan meme. Articles about memes tend to be at best good-faith attempts that end up getting filled with cruft that's meaningless to anyone not "in" on the meme, and at worst, blatant ED ripoffs.

Solution: You have to bring something really original to the table.

The only featured article about a meme that I know of is Epic fail. Let the average internet user write about "epic fail" and they'll probably make a list of failures and a gallery of fail pics, and it will end up being a jumbled mess. Epic fail is good because you can really feel the schadenfreude as the narrator laughs at his family and friends.

My suggestion is to write about a real bear (also quite a good article), one who lives in a park or something, who is a pedophile and steals babies like Yogi Bear steals baskets. Or maybe not. British politician

....my suggestion would be to do it as though he was a British politician. That would give you lot's of scope to talk about his campaign election, his polices, and the stuff he gets up to on a day to day basis. It would need to be written in a VERY strong encyclopaedic (maybe deadpan) style for it to work. That's my suggestion... ;) MrN 05:36, Aug 29

Popular Pedobear

Sorry, can't figure out how to use your box, so I'll put it here.

Pedobear needs an article--did a search and got over 700,000 hits, including some sites that focus on the character. Only tricky part will be coming up with something that hasn't already been done.

Santa: Maybe Santa's his Daddy. Or Santa brought him to the world as a Christmas present.

Smokey Bear/Smokey The Bear: I did a little search on our friend Pedobear. He gets more hits than Smokey the Bear! And that could be a problem. I don't know how many people outside of America know who Smokey is. So if you use Smokey, keep that in mind.

Mickey Mouse: Everybody knows Mickey. Maybe a Pedobear-Disney connection? Like Disney ripped off the original and completely Disneyfied it like they did with Peter Pan and Wendy, Alice's Adventure in Wonderland, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pinnochio, etc.

Teddy Bear: Maybe something about him being rescued by President Theodore Roosevelt.

God: Pedobear as the son of God?

Maybe you could combine these. I know that could be a mess, but maybe it could work. And I like the idea of him being completely innocent. That could help you keep away from the already done to death, and make something fresh. Although if you use that movie trailer (which is great), that might be difficult unless you specify it's not true.

Syndrome, in regard to my Sun Bee article, pointed out something you might want to use here. Mommy, if you want an idea of how Pedobear gets a high school diploma and college degree when he presumably can't read or write, what if he's really good at playing sports? I really know someone who could bearly barely read who got As in college because he was a star athlete and took a lot of classes from coaches. I imagine a bear would be great at blocking and tackling. Maybe he ends up playing professionally for the Chicago Bears. And maybe also plays for the Chicago Cubs. (I don't know if you could get the Chicago Bulls and Bears related to a Bear or Bull stock market). Also if Pedobear's used for Disney, maybe you could somehow substitute him for Mickey Mouse. On the Pedobear article, I have a couple ideas. Do you want me to post them on the talk page, or add them to the article and then let you delete them if you don't like them? One thing I noticed is that you have a bear wearing clothes that partially burn off to leave a teddy, but no explanation of why the bear is wearing clothes. Quick note. I've done a little shrinkage on the footnotes as that appears to be more in line the the wikipedia general style. I have not touched the text as there is so much involved in there and I don't want to screw with it without reading it a few more times over. But it is a good article on initial read. Partially agree with . The article is a long read, but a long article works if you can keep the reader entertained throughout the entire article. To that end it needs more images, and needs a little spit and polish, but happy to date. Two things that stick in the craw so far - the image of the "mascot" - remove the mascot reference and make it out that he is a player, as that works better within the text. The second in the image. It should be the 1920s PB, not the modern one. Oh, and can you also add in a reference to a PB sandwich? If you need to stretch it beyond breaking, then don't stress about it, but I kind of like the pun. Pup t 10:59, 19/09/2009

I'm the culprit who made the Walt Disney painting the modern Pedobear image. I see your point, and can easily make a different version as all I have to do it--well heck, I'll just do it. (But I'll leave it up to the primary author on which to use.) Also for whoever--the comparision at the bottom of three versions of Pedobear--do you think that's enough, or should there be some in between 1928 and 2009? I can do it, but that will take a fair amount of work. It took me longer than I thought it would to create the 1928 image. Might be easier if I knew how to draw. Sailor Jupiter Caption

There has been a bit of an editing war going on between me and another user about an image caption, and I've decided to bring it up here. My caption says "A Sailor Scout being very modest." The other user's caption, and the original caption before my first edit, reads "A Sailor Scout showing her modesty." The point of this caption is that showing of a boy's underpants was considered modest, and hence the joke where Jupiter's underpants are showing. Personally, I thought my caption was more subtle, and actually made sense while still following the joke, whereas the previous caption didn't seem to make much sense in line with the joke. So yeah. One more suggestion. You might want establish from the very beginning that people didn't know Pedobear was a real bear. Maybe a short sentence after the first: "Pedobear is not only an international celebrity and cultural icon, he is the most famous bear in history. Even though people didn't know he was a real bear."
