Rewrite?[edit source]

Does anybody mind if I do a rewrite? It's here, if anyone cares. If you say nay, no biggie. I kind of like this page, 'cept the quotes. --Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 12:00, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

No one replied...so I gol-darn gone an' dun it.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 21:06, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Good article, needs jokes[edit source]

I think this article is well written and well structured, but it needs more jokes.– Preceding unsigned comment added by Super90 (talk • contribs)

I'll try to not be a diva, but the Star Wars stuff stays, 'cause Lucas cribbed from Dune, & the "whore" stuff stays, 'cause Lady Jessica was a concubine. A loved woman, Bene Gesserit, mother, and family member, but a concubine none the less. The eyebrow bit stays too, 'cause that's one of the lines that was stuck in my head for a week before I started the rewrite.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 08:10, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I'll use your "Fries" quote (which is a good line, by the way) and mine as an "option" (where the page randomly shows one or the other).--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 08:14, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh, heck[edit source]

Don't be a diva, I'm coming from a place of pure love. I've read Dune 20+ times and am perfectly fit to mock it. Also, I agree that Chapterhouse is #2. Although, God Emperor was great too.– Preceding unsigned comment added by [[User:|]] ([[User talk:|talk]] • contribs)

I'm trying not to be, heart-crossed. The additions are working pretty well. God Emperor was great. I'm sad that there was never a book between Dune and Dune Messiah (you know, that decade gap where the revolution goes horribly wrong).--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 08:48, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Get this, I had a copy of Doon also, when I was a teenager, but I don't have it anymore and I doubt it's still at my parent's house. Was it the Beermen? I remember something about Paul getting a beer gut...--Super90 09:04, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I only vaguely remember Doon. Doon was one of those used bookstore 25 cent finds that was worth every penny. I remember it being surprisingly good, and it had pretzels. Also, I read it years before I read Dune; Dune was one of the books I avoided in high school (before giving in to my inner geek). Unlike most of the books I avoided back then, Dune turned out to be much better than I expected. "Nineteen Eighty-four" too. Kafka...sucks. Camus's "the Plague"...meh. "Brave New World" was okay, but dated. "We" has aged poorly. Basically, most of the "great" novels I avoided until recently turned out to be not all that great. Except Dune.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 09:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

From VFH (at least the first bit)[edit source]

  • Against. Sorry, maybe I am too much geek-proud to accept this the article focus too much on the fanbase geekness and misses a lot of the natural ridicule of such an über-duber-campy book/movie/linchean-movie. -- herr doktor needsAraygun Rocket.gif [scream!] 15:41, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Against. For the same reasons given by NeedABrain. Lemon. Lemonwedge.gif 17:00, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Comment Pick up a copy of Doon. It's awesome. Also, it was written by a guy name Weiner, which is a plus.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 18:07, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Comment. In my humble opinion, Dune is a perfect exemplar of cheesy sci-fi and deserves the most hostile mockery. If there's a book already doing it, maybe we could create an article about this book making it the "serious" version. herr doktor needsAraygun Rocket.gif [scream!] 18:14, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Comment since Doon was a parody so good that anything we write couldn't possibly compete with it, I went with quasi-mocking the readers of Dune, rather than the book itself (quasi-mocking because the "narrator" is easily as nerdy as those that he's trying to put down).--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 20:54, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
You are a living monument to modesty, Modus... :D Unfortunately, I have to admit that I've seem the movie, but not read the book. Am I supposed to have read it to find this article funnier? -- herr doktor needsAraygun Rocket.gif [scream!] 21:16, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
It would probably help, as the Lynch movie cut out just about every plotline and reduced most of the characters to cardboard cutouts. Lynch's film had all of the basics, but had little of what lifted the story from "pulp-scifi" to "great-scifi". Heck, Bruckheimer could've produced his version. That being said, this page doesn't really delve into the minutae of the Dune series; the page would be way too long if we brought up more than just the big picture (the original Dune novel alone has a bunch major and minor plotlines...and everybody is scheming against everyone else, with each group having it's own motivations and justifications).--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 21:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Having nothing to do with anything, I thought the movie (the Lynch movie not that other shit) was quite watchable. I liked Baron Harkonnen molesting Sting, and all the ridiculous outfits, and the cherry-picking of scenes so that you actually had to come into the movie versed in the book. Fear is the mindkiller, indeed. Lemon. Lemonwedge.gif 22:06, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
I started a petition to force all Hollywood films have a hovering fat guy molest Sting, but it only got one signature...hey! It was you!--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 01:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
  • If I have understood this well, the joke is: "Ha ha ha, geeks, we won't talk about Dune here". Okay, it's is well constructed and fulfills its intentions, so I will not vote against it anymore. herr doktor needsAraygun Rocket.gif [scream!] 18:48, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
No biggie...and I do recommend the book. (Nerd I was, and nerd I shall forever be...never was good at math, though.)--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 19:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Citations[edit source]

Fake citations 1-5 are jumbled (the #s don't match), I think due to a ref in an image. Is this intentional? --Alksub 02:51, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks. I only discovered a few days ago that picture refs automatically go first (which is kind of dumb). It's fixed and, no, it wasn't intentional. Having refs in pictures just doesn't come up that often.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 03:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Fucking Hilairious![edit source]

This shit is fucking hilairious, you should get it featured. – Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.148.225 (talk • contribs)

Indeed. Unfortunately, the rest of the users on Uncyc are probably reading the latest Harvey Potter novel, or something. Pbbbt! They're so nerdy. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 18:40, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

This Image[edit source]

I have a question: Why isn't this picture on this article? Seems relevant enough to me. Of course, I haven't read the thingy, so I am utterly unqualified to make such a decision, so I leave it up to you, whoever happens to have this page on their watchlist. P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 01:53, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

It looks fine right here. Are you unqualified because you haven't read Dune, or because you haven't read the Dune page? Keep in mind that any answer you give will be held against you in a court of nerd. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 02:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
