Forum:Proposal: Deop Lyrithya --Wanna see a magic trick? 04:36, May 22, 2011 (UTC)

Hi it's me back from the crusades...

Um, what now? What happened? Wait, Spike was banned for a month at some point in time? Is Lyrithya banned or not, and Dawg is back? And what's this about calling someone a douchebag, and wait Lyrithya was made a permanent admin after the experiment, and people didn't like that or was that all just ironic posting? My goldfish goldie? My cat Fluffy?

WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON!!??!!?

I'm not really back, btw. Maybe I'll come back when I finish my ebook.User:Mrthejazz/sig 04:41, May 22, 2011 (UTC)

OMG WE'RE HIPSTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --Roman Dog Bird 04:50, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
I'm trying to come around more often. My life has been quite crazy, but I heard the site needs a good b'crat or three, so I'm going to try to be around. For the moment all of you have a slight " honeymoon" period while learning the art of wushu ban stick, discretionary huffing, prose weaving, and associated arts of advanced humour site care and upkeep before I can return with my full force. Until then, I'm tapping on my phone to write these (because I'm on vacation). Dawg.gif » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 2011.05.22.16:39
Dawg had the courage to do what no one else could...de-op Lyrithya. Thank you, Dawg. You have slayd the dragon! --Care for a lick? Lollipop Care for a lick? - CONTRIBS - WRITINGS - SHOP - Now adopting! - 16:47, 22 May 2011
Sadly, I resurrected the dragon, but there is a good chance that it won't be permanent. Once I can more thoroughly review their record and watch them in action (and hold a legitimate vote among the admins and userbase). From what I've heard and events that have taken place, I strongly suspect they'll fail probation. I have added a bookmark to de-op Lyritha from my phone on a moment's notice. Good to hear from a user who was active in the days when popularity contests didn't equal VFS. Most of the admins were elected du8e to popularity, Lyrithya is the best and worst thing to come to Uncyclopedia. --Care for a lick? Lollipop Care for a lick? - CONTRIBS - WRITINGS - SHOP - Now adopting! - 17:26, 22 May 2011
1. None of the admins became admins due to popularity. UnPopularity, maybe.
2. Most of the old admins became admins spontaneously. Like, as in as puff of smoke. It is said that it was quite a sight to see. Not by me. I don't say. I just sit in a corner and brood. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 21:42, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
Once I get back to a real computer I'll expand on this, but VFS should never be a popularity contest. I knew it was going that way after the +sysop of a certain admin that I'd prefer not to mention. The fact is that even when a VFS is held, all candidates should be nominated by existing admins and bureaus, then their votes should carry far more weight than that of an average user (think apportioned electoral college with admins comprising one state and users another, but with bureaus holding veto power). The fact is that being an admin requires a certain level of maturity, is a lot of work, and isn't always best for good writers (in fact, it more often kills them). I'd much prefer to give good writers, even mature ones, a badge for featured articles than make them an admin and crush their souls.
The best example I can think of is a certain anonymous IP. One day we found ourselves, as admins, overwhelmed and in need of another administrator. A bureau of the time asked us to nominate people for +sysop. The strongest contender at the time was not a registered user, but a tireless IP editor that we had noticed working on the site for a while by their "fingerprints" (editing, categorizing, tagging) that happened to come here from an external AOL IP shared with countless vandals (and kept getting IP blocked as a result, which hurt the site). I don't recall the specifics, but we nominated that IP and eventually got them to register (at the time, they believed they had nothing to offer the site, which is why they never signed up). This person became one of our greatest admins, in my very humble opinion. Basically, for the same reason that an American Idol win seldom results in a notable music career, winning a VFS vote that boils down to popularity and longevity probably won't result in a notable admin career. Dawg.gif » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 2011.05.23.15:00
Oh come on, you can't just leave us new guys hanging like this. Who was the IP who became an admin? And by the way, I don't know how serious this all is about Littheia or however the name is spelled, but imnho you are either right or Lyrth is a very very good admin who won because of competence and not popularity (so don't let these naysayers nay say you).Aleister 15:05 23-5-'11
I originally wrote it with a link to the admin's user page, but since I don't know their feelings on this, I didn't name them. They can name themselves if they wish, though. Dawg.gif » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 2011.05.23.15:18

Dude, joke. --It's my fucking birthday, goddammit. Worship me. 16:35, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
Dawg is right. The older admins, like RC, Zombiebaron, Mhaille, Modus, etc. were elected not by popularity, but by their actions. Then, suddenly, it became a popularity contest. If it wasn't a popularioty contest, then Lyrithya and Fnoodle would not be admins and we'd have Spike and Hyperbole as admins. That's also why Aleister will never get to be an admin (I doubt he wants to anyway). --Care for a lick? Lollipop Care for a lick? - CONTRIBS - WRITINGS - SHOP - Now adopting! - 16:37, 23 May 2011
Now wait a minute, I must disagree with you there, Lollipop. I believe Lyrithya does a fine job of being an admin, and always deserved to be one. As for Fnoodle, he's a bot, some of the actions he performs need to be performed on protected pages. But he can't do that if he's not an admin. And as Skully said, he'll be giving the password to all the admins, so he'll need to be an admin anyway. Now, that's not to say I don't think Spike and Hyperbole would do a great job as admins, I think they would, I'm just saying I don't see your logic behind why Lyrithya and Fnoodle aren't. --Wanna see a magic trick? 17:06, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
I agree on you with Fnoodle, but with Lyrithya...it's just a joke. I've been around almost as long as she has. Lyrithya is good at writing articles, nearly all of hers are featured. Having Dawg back brings us back to a time when all admins were administrators. When it was a serious job. --Care for a lick? Lollipop Care for a lick? - CONTRIBS - WRITINGS - SHOP - Now adopting! - 17:12, 23 May 2011
Small fact correction for the paranoid: I won't be giving Fnoodle's account password to anyone, ever. However, all of his actions will be controllable by the current admins, either via his protected User:Fnoodle/Control Panel or by password-protected script pages (though I'd like to avoid the latter). Giving out the actual account's password would only lead to eventual trouble; Fnoodle will always be ultimately under my control. He's just customizable, is the thing.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  critchat) 17:37 May 23, 2011
(Edit conflict) It still is a serious job, and I think Lyrithya knows that and does a great job with it. But you also must remember that this is a humor wiki, and you can't take anything too seriously. As for you saying that you've been here almost as long as her, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. She's only been here sixteen days longer than I have. Does that mean I should be an admin, too? No. It's not how long you've been here, but what you do in that time that counts. Another thing you must remember is that Lyrithya could read this and get her feelings hurt, and don't think for a second that that couldn't happen, because it could. Do you remember when you were still Maniac Mcpee? And do you remember that time after you got banned that some people started talking about how you were annoying, and how they didn't like your articles? Now try to remember how much that hurt to read, and don't try to say it didn't, because I know it did. The very same thing could happen to Lyrithya. So how about you just lay off her a little, I mean, we're all just human, and we're all just doing the best we can. --Wanna see a magic trick? 17:42, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
So far, I like the way Lyrithya as an admin explains what she does, is willing to say sorry or oops or I didnt mean it that way and is particularly skilled in bringing down the level of unpleasantness between two people (did you see the way she resolved the conflict between Spike and I in January?). Its nice to see people giving out their opinions straight and directly without worried about people telling them to shut up or people calling it drama (as long as its in a non-dick way). Lolipop has every right to give his opinion as long as its in a non-dick way (even though I disagree with him). Skull thumper is right in saying we should not to take things here too seriously (which all of us have over-done...ALL OF US). And I also think that instead of us all forming one big human centipede with our mouths sewn to each others anuses by a german doctor, we should form a human butterfly, by sewing our arms together, and sewing a tent to our hands and parachuting off a cliff? With cake? ANYONE IN!?!?!? --ShabiDOO 21:36, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
The thing you're both forgetting is that the "classic" admins could not be elected by popularity. This is because they were never popular. So it had to be by their actions. As an analogy, if someone was setting you up on a blind date with one of them they'd say "He's got a nice personality". And, even then, they'd be lying. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 22:27, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
The flaw with the current system isn't really lack of "democracy", or that "established users" don't get enough deference, the problem is that we have too many unaccountable admins. The problem also isn't with specific admins, but rather with the whole system. Under the current system, admins can get away with alot of immaturity that would get regular users reprimanded, and eventually banned if uncorrected. Some examples would include sigs that are too long, failure to archive user pages until they break the internet, having a hissyfit when someone satirizes the policies of a certain nation, et cetera. I could go on, but I think that shows of enough of the violence inherent in the system. When an admin does do something major wrong, it generally involves a wiki-wide drama-thon, but no real risk of the admin losing his/her admin rights or being banned (in such a way that they can't unban themselves immediately).
My point is, the system really isn't "working" that well as it is. I would grant that the system would be worse if we had more admins, and it would also be worse if every "established user" was above the law. It probably also be worse if had an official division between "established users" and "common users". However, the current crat/admin versus user distinction is absurd, and admin dickery has driven away many users. Do I have a better idea on how to run the wiki? sorta
I'm going to admit my last proposal was a bit bold. However, no-one was taking my similar idea in another thread seriously. Also, the 1-month term limit w/o re-election for regular admins was a bad idea, since it would double the needed pool of admin candidates. However I still agree with the main thrust of the idea, which is to get the number of "unaccountable" admins/crats to an absolute minimum, and make sure that group of crats consists of people who would not abuse their authority. --Mn-z 22:33, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

Musings of an Uncyclopedian

I'll take your words seriously, Mn-z. I decided to step away from the place that has become my home page for a while now (that would be Uncyc), rethinking my life and whatnot. Lately, this place has started to take itself WAY too seriously, and not just about this thing with Lyrithya. In the userbase, fun poking is often mistaken for dickery; admins have been harsh enough with bans to make valuable users leave; VFD has become a place of heated words instead of the rational forum it is supposed to be. What happened to the Fun-cyclopedia that I used to read four years ago?

I probably haven't been the best Uncyclopedian I could be, I'll admit. I think many of us have gone off the deep end recently. So why don't we all just work on getting along and stop antagonizing each other? Simply due to the nature of freely-editable websites, a well-oiled wiki is going to require compromise from everyone. The system of power doesn't have to be rebuilt as long as everyone remains civil. Admins are here to stop vandalism and promote peace, but fighting dickery with more dickery is only going to create even more dickery.

I miss the old Uncyclopedia where the only drama was with BENSON, Anonymous Slashy and all that other stuff. Who knows; maybe this debate over Lyrithya will eventually become an in-joke; a wacky war article that everyone will have a good laugh over. That's what I'm hoping for, anyway. -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. [[::File:Sexy_twilight.jpeg|His shameless obsession.]] 09:18 May 26, 2011 (UTC)

SlyFox, if you leave we'll pour water down into your foxhole. And how can you leave before you vote on "Skunk" on VFH (whoring license no. 2884-7)? There is no debate about Litheeria or however the name is spelled, this entire page is a joke and was created as a joke. Heated words in jest. Banned as a joke. Everybody is having fun! So since you misread it, please don't leave. Your other things, valuable users leaving and harsh bans, those are problems, yes, but you can help it by strapping a bomb on your chest and visiting a couple of user pages. Praise Allah.
