The Duke of Hissy threw one of his famous fits in the summer of '08 demanding that all ads should be removed from sight. He was naturally banned, but the point was made. While I have no problem with the revenue ads at the bottom of the page, the ads at the top are beginning to become numerous and annoying.

Namely, the site notice is being used far too much for things it was not intended. As we have all read in the scriptures, the site notice was created to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to the masses, and other important, timely information. It, um... seems to be becoming adspace.

In the last few weeks, I've seen "Hurry and vote at VFH!" "Vote for VFP!" "Vote for Kennedy!" "Hurry to the Pee Tower!" and other such, shall I say, "non-essential" site notices up. While it is important that our users do these things, it is beginning to reach the point where it's just an adspace where we're telling the user what to do. I feel this will cause us to lose users.

Oh, and I'm Brad. I was once an admin here. It's ok if you've never heard of me. I wasn't that great an admin, anyway. I was in it just to fill in a blank spot on my resume.

Cheers and feel free to ignore this advice (I know I always ignore my advice, just out of principle. I mean, for example: I'm a total hypocrite. Took the oath and everything!), I just still worry about the site, from time-to-time.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 13:05, July 6, 2011 (UTC)

I'm confused... what else would we use the sitenotice for? I mean, it may be overused, but that's another matter, innit? It is for pickles and whatnot. And Pickles.
Also, the users have already been lost. All we have left are zombies. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 16:41, 6 July 2011
I agree. The sitenotice is being overused. I ignore it completely now since it's used to suggest that I do somethingorwhatever rather than giving me information about something important on the site. --EMC [TALK] 16:50 Jul 6 2011
The sitenotice has been greatly overlooked as one of the best ways to display alerts to users about what's going on, whether it be a contest or a notification that VFH is doing poorly. I've seen people respond very well to it and seen other wikis use it far more often than we do. I think it's about time we got rid of the stigma that comes with editing the sitenotice - it's a damned useful tool. Overused, maybe, but I'm not so sure about that yet. Of course, it'd be used far less often if the site weren't struggling just to get by. On an unrelated note, the ads at the bottom of the page are not revenue ads since they are just links to other Wikia sites, and we're starting to think about bringing in actual revenue ads sometime soon so Wikia can give us better support.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  critchat) 16:53 Jul 06, 2011
I don't care about what other wikis do with their sitenotices. I'd like Uncyc's sitenotice to be used less frequently and only be used for important announcements (PLS, ATDB, special votes, etc.). The more it's used for stupid things like "Hey guys! Want to help your peers, increase your notoriety, and satisfy your admin overlords? Do a Pee review!", the less people will care to read what it has to say. And I notice that it is being used constantly these days. --EMC [TALK] 17:21 Jul 6 2011
I'm inclined to agree, and thus tempted to change it to "do whatever the motherfuck you want!" -- Prof. Olipro Icons-flag-gb.png KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. (Harass) 18:20, July 6, 2011 (UTC)
