PF4Eva appears to have created a new namespace, prefix Shit That Pisses Me Off:, for the express purpose of comprising a series of rants. I have nothing against rants, and one of my favorite articles, My ex-wife, is a virtuoso rant in the style of Sam Kinison.

However, I do not understand:

  • Why such articles--opinion pieces in the voice of a designated celebrity--could not fit in the "UnNews Columns" genre that Multiliteralist invented
  • What would be lost if the thing were retitled "What pisses me off"--None of it is about shit, and the namespace name will offend lots of people I know between here and the other US coast.

And I do not understand whether this is part of UnNews or not. PF4Eva asked that the UnNews style guide accommodate this genre, and I edited the style guide (in Sec. 2.4), though I declined to include instructions to creators of such pieces.

PF4Eva has created a new page today, and, although it is in his separate namespace, he added it to {{RecentUnNews}} to hype it on the home page, and it has a banner saying it is "part of UnNews." But his new namespace has a parallel style guide, and the article has a template at the bottom, which is a shadow of the form on the UnNews Front Page, by which one can click to create a new article in the alternate namespace.

Are you in or out of UnNews? Is every author free to create a shadow UnNews, which is not subject to the usual constraints but free to use the UnNews publicity tools? Have we decided to allow an arbitrary number of UnNews-like things? Spıke ¬ 00:50 29-Oct-10

I think it would make more sense putting it back in unNews. We don't need new projects that we will forget about. --Mn-z 02:08, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

Won't we get a T.V. show with a former Star Trek personality if we leave it as "Shit That Pisses Me Off:" ???  Avast Matey!!! Happytimes are here!* Happytimes.gif (talk) (stalk) Π   ~ Xkey280.jpg ~  29 Oct 2010 ~ 05:27 (UTC)
PF4Eva's DIY approach seems to go against the spirit of co-operation in here. What's next? each user could have their own VFH page next?? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 23:27, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't mind them calling the show Crap That Ticks Me Off. Shatner's busy with Shit My Dad Says, so maybe we can get Patrick Stewart to play the pissed-off guy. The reason it's in a whole different namespace from UnNews is that I don't like the thought of no space between the hyphen and the article title:

UnNews:Shit That Pisses Me Off -Your title here Instead of UnNews:Shit That Pisses Me Off - Your title here

I haven't been sure how to get around it, except for create a new namespace, or at least using a colon instead of a hyphen. I didn't put much thought into that when I came up with the concept.

To answer your questions, these STPMO rants are more specific than a regular UnNews Column or Editorial. UC, UE, and STPMO are all branches of UnNews no matter how you slice it, and no alternate namespace is gonna change that.

Also, the title. Obviously meant to "cash in" on Shit My Dad Says. Also, the articles would lose some balls if I toned down the title. This is shit that pisses you off so bad that you feel the need to swear to get your point across and get it out of your system. Cleaning up the language in that respect would be counterproductive. I'm not saying to go overboard with the swearing, just to use only as much as gets your point across -- a la George Carlin's approach to profanity.

And as stated above, yes, STPMO is still part of UnNews. Hopefully more people can contribute to it soon. It's in dire need to be more collaborative. It's not just about me and my peeves, but everybody and their peeves. Black-2.jpg PF4Eva, the President of Imagination Vote for me My tax returns 23:31, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

The above is responsive on no fronts.

  • It is baffling to think that inserting a single space as shown would make an article name invalid in the UnNews: namespace--or that there isn't another alternative (even a second colon) that would be typographically pleasing.
  • STPMO is not part of UnNews, in that Olipro's reimplementation will not pick up articles in the STPMO namespace.
  • STPMO is not part of UnNews in that the great majority of UnNewses are pages that appear to be legitimate news stories until the reader considers their impossibility--or compares them to the source provided. Even UnNews Columns and UnNews Editorials are styled as an opinion piece that a named celebrity might have written, until the reader realizes that the celebrity wouldn't have, or that there is some other joke.
  • Now I read that there is a Twitter feed that begins with the word Shit--although the word will not appear in its new incarnation as a CBS sit-com. This supposedly justifies naming the category with an entirely different phrase also beginning with Shit? Is beginning an utterance with Shit the new fashion? Again, it is quite the opposite in many places between here and the other coast.

I don't mind obscenity, and Funnybony's UnNews last week, a report from the cloister answering in the negative the classic query, Does a bear shit in the woods? is a classic, a bizarre use of vulgarity by people (Vatican personnel, then the UnNews Audio anchor) who would be expected not to. By comparison, the unnecessary obscenity in this category title adds no humor.

It is more than just sporking the UnNews templates and going off to create your own shadow UnNews. This article, through {{RecentUnNews}}, at the moment appears above all the other UnNews contributions. It claims to be an UnNews, but PF4Eva is not doing what we are doing. It is not news, it has a tenuous relation to news, it is not the opinion of "Hardy McTakeTheBus," whom no one knows; it is the personal opinion of PF4Eva, and the only claim to humor is by making it a potty-mouthed rant (this one regarding NetFlix).

Separate to the organization issues, and I hate to keep sounding like my schoolmarm mother: As I keep telling PF4Eva on his talk page--clean up your language. It will be more convincing in our hoax "news service" and you will find higher-quality ways to be funny than swearing to a worldwide audience of strangers. Don't invent new institutions so you don't have to find those ways. Spıke ¬ 02:48 30-Oct-10

So I guess I should comment since I contributed... but I think Spike is right, this is not the traditional UnNews as we know it. This is like the crazy people editorial section page in your local (read, smaller town next to your hometown (that still has a paper)) paper that features rants about vegetables or weather or vagrants or something like that.
This project does have a place, and that place is probably tucked away in a sub-section of UnNews... but on that note it shouldn't claim to be more than it is (read UnNews proper), but in fact the sub-section that it is.  Avast Matey!!! How...

Is "Shit That Pisses Me Off" even the slightest related to UnNews? Maybe it could sometimes be inspired by some recent event, though I wouldn't think that's necessarily the case.

However, there's something else I want to ask: Why is this ugly image and this ugly template on every STPMO page? Sorry to the guy who made those, but they're really not nice to look at.

Also, I think "Shit That Pisses Me Off" isn't the best name for this namespace. Something like "This Shit Fucking Pisses Me Off" has a better ring to it, in my opinion.

Additionally, I'm not even sure this should be a namespace. I mean, we've got a huge diversity of different kinds of articles in mainspace already (dialogues, monologues, encyclopedia articles and some other stuff). I don't see why there can't be an article titled "Hatchet II and Why It's Fucking Shit" in mainspace. I would just like to say

That I have absolutely no problem with what PF4Eva is doing, unless it fucking sucks. Tinymasaru.gifpillow talk 23:20, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Totally seriously though...

...I know only people who also are offended by something like "Shit that pisses me off". They like "Cuntshit that pisses my fucking dick off somewhat bad" a fair lot better. You might read something into this but don't. -- Style Oranssiviiva.jpg Guide 07:54, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

Even more seriously now that I'm in a seriously serious mood

I agree that "Shit that pisses me off" in an UnNews article header is not great humour. If you want to punch them below the belt, it should come somewhere inside the article, when they no longer expect anything.
