I had long wondered what the acceptable fonts for this site were. When you enter a font that the system doesn't have, it reverts to New Times Roman. I had copied over a font list from Wikipedia and noticed that half didn't work. While assisting Sog with Hitler's report card, EMC dropped in some fonts to make the sigs look unique but only two of those seemed to work while the rest defaulted. After some hunting an pecking it would appear that every font listed in my Compositor (Image Editor) works here. There's some that aren't on my Compositor list that work here too. Here's a handy little reference page to snazz up your article:

THE HOUSES OF THE HOLY

Dooooood! That font ROCKS
Odd thing: Webdings and Wingdings produces what appears to be New Times Roman Extended and Extra Extended. I haven't listed them here. I'm sure there's many more - so if you are aware of a snazzy font that can be used, just add to the list.--DRStrangesig5.png Sherman.png Fingertalk.png  11:41, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

More than a few of those look absolutely identical to me (7 - 11 and 27 - 31, for example) - is it not something to do with which fonts you have installed on your computer? F'r instance, one of my old sigs displays differently on my work PC (which has the font installed) to my home PC (which doesn't). --UU - natter UU Manhole.gif 11:47, Feb 3
Yep, those that look the same are defaulting for you. Wow, this is just like the browser size thing. Everyone will not be on the "same page" and + or - won't help. Hmmmmmmm.--DRStrangesig5.png Sherman.png Fingertalk.png  11:57, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
And to make matters more confusing, I have fonts that are clearly loaded on my computer that default here.--DRStrangesig5.png Sherman.png Fingertalk.png  12:07, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
I just spotted the same thing. How does that work then? This is still a handy list though Doc, ta. --UU - natter UU Manhole.gif 12:19, Feb 3
Same as UU here. I couldn't see until I installed the Deja Vu fonts, but even some of the fonts I have downloaded aren't displaying on this page. This forum seems to indicate that Wikia's servers are probably to blame for this problem. --EMC [TALK] 02:17 Feb 4 2010
Also, it seems to be a bit of a browser limitation in some cases ("Gecko browsers ... by default apply same-origin restrictions to fonts, meaning they have to be hosted on the same domain as the web page."), in that while you may have the font downloaded, if Wikia (or any host really, not just wikis or Wikia wikis; i.e., MySpace doesn't recognize certain fonts either and they use HTML and not Wiki markup) doesn't recognize the font family, then forget about it. Apparently there are some patches to remedy this though. --EMC [TALK] 02:22 Feb 4 2010
It's nothing to do with the web site, or any web site, it's to do with which fonts you have installed on your computer. That ^ thread is about embedding downloadable fonts in a page so people who don't have them installed can use them. Also, they don't just default to Times New Roman, they'll just use your default serif font, which just happens to usually be TNR. Or they'll use the extended version if it includes characters the normal font doesn't have, as with wingdings. If you're using specific fonts, you should always specify similarly styled fallbacks for when the font isn't installed. Spang talk 04:28, 04 Feb 2010
So what you are, in fact saying, is "All your fonts are belong to us?"  Avast Matey!!! Happytimes are here!* Happytimes.gif (talk) (stalk) Π   ~ Xkey280.jpg ~  05 Feb 2010 ~
