For those that don't get it, John Wilkes Booth supposedly shouted, "Sic semper tyrannis! The South is avenged!" when he shot Abraham Lincoln. So that's the play on words being (ab)used in this image. Oh, while we're playing fact time, Sic semper tyrannis is Latin for "Thus always to tyrants". --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 18:25, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

It's a good pic BUT - Lincoln was anything but a tyrant...killing people (or a dino in place of Lincoln) is not funny...I think that the people who voted against and "get it" don't think it's all that funny and for the people who don't it's not front page material if you have to explain it to them. I see this one needing to go -- – Mahroww a.k.a. Horatio Meyer Stein  06:35, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

  • You do realize that the South thought Lincoln was a horrible tyrant, right? --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 14:58, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
    • a small part of the South. The bible thumping south that thought slavery was a god given right...and since nothing is mentioned in the Bible about God disagreeing with Noah condemning the descendents of Canaan (blacks) to slavery. (see my Noah's Ark article for the exact verses) Then it must've been okay right?. Lincoln tried to work with everyone for a UNITED country. ANYWAY...that's not the major reason I don't think the pic is funny.
  • Comment the picture is not a knock at Lincoln, but rather a playful (and clever) spin on the words that Wilkes Booth said as he shot Lincoln - Just because you don't like a particular point in history doesn't mean it didn't exist or happen - The Holocaust happened, WWII happened but we as a community need to learn to laugh at these things lest they rule our lives by our fear of them. --LinkTGF
    • Tyrannosaurus rex literally means Tyrant Lizard King. Its barely a play on words and for irony's sake Booth should have been the Dino. Tyrants kill those who disagree with them. Lincoln was a master debater not a tyrant. As for laughing about it...that's fine if you can. Some will take that as minimizing it not releasing of fear. Lastly, I think the pic is good...I just don't think it's all that funny. -- – Mahroww a.k.a. Horatio Meyer Stein  19:28, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
    • IMHO, I just don't find it funny. Oh, you replaced tyrannis with tyrannosaurus. Ha. Ha. Comedic genius. </sarcasm> --User:Nintendorulez 20:59, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Comment the only thing I would change with the image is the 1)contrast - its a wee bit grey for a line drawing, and 2) font of the caption bubble - its a lttle too "new". This is a minor, though. I love this image! Dame PPsigPPlips.gifGUN PotY WotM 2xPotM 17xVFH VFP Poo PMS •YAP• 12:26, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
I just tried working with the greyscale, the brightness and the contrast, just for comparision sake. The revised attempt is at Image:Sicsempertyrannrev.jpg I think that my adjustments just made everything look harsh.
